Dog friendly beaches - Burgh Island

With countless dog friendly beaches dotted along the South Devon coastline, this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a great holiday destination for those looking to bring their four legged friends. The winter months are a particularly good time to visit, as many of the beaches with seasonal dog restrictions during the summer months become dog friendly. Here are just some of the dog friendly beaches not to be missed this winter!

Blackpool Sands
This Blue Flag awarded shingle stretch is on the Start Bay coastline, just a short drive from historic Dartmouth. One of the region’s most popular dog friendly beaches between the months of November and March, this is a great place for walks over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Enjoy strolling along the surf, playing fetch with your dog, and watching the sun set on the horizon – beautiful!

Another of the dog friendly beaches in the region (only pet-friendly during selected off-season months) is the surfer’s paradise, Bantham. Well worth visiting during the autumn and winter months, you can exercise your dog on the sand, before heading to The Sloop Inn nearby. This dog friendly pub has a roaring open fire – the ideal spot for warming up after a chilly walk in the cold winter months!

Bigbury-on-Sea
Bigbury-on-Sea is one of the dog friendly beaches in the area, although there are some dog restrictions on certain sections of the sand. Head to the beach during the winter months with your dog, and you can enjoy beach combing along the shoreline, rockpooling and fabulous walks with beautiful views. With spectacular views of Burgh Island, this is a fascinating place for a visit.
