With the summer holidays officially over, we find ourselves making plans for the next break in the school calendar year,...
When you think of Devon, what comes into your head? Tweed jackets, hay bales and cider (but locally pressed apple juice for the little ones of course!)? If these images spring to mind then Kingsbridge Show, Saturday 5th September, is a fun day out for kids and adults alike. Set in a rural location and in its 134th year, the show celebrates all things South Devon, successfully retaining its agricultural and horticultural roots whilst providing entertainment for everyone.
For animal lovers, or those with an interest in farming tradition, there’s plenty to get stuck into at Borough Farm early next month. Keen on truly immersing yourself in Devonshire tradition? There are many classes for cattle and sheep showcasing farming talent from both Young Farmers as well as those with more experience. The main ring is a center point for the action with displays such as falconry and terrier racing exciting spectators. Horses are a major attraction with their own show field and competition throughout the day. If your child is inspired to channel their inner Mary King then donkey rides should create great memories, from fun days out for kids. For those who have an uncontrolled competitive streak waiting to get out and a canine friend or two, the Family Dog Show from 1pm will add another dimension to fun days out for kids.
“Where’s the cider?” I here you say. To engage in local life, the food and drink marquee is bursting with delicious treats to either eat or admire. Whilst getting an insight into the talent of many different Devonshire producers, you can enjoy fun days out for kids in the sunshine listening to the sounds of fiddles, banjos and guitar with live folk music from local bands. Enjoy some of the fine produce from the farms and butchers, but make sure you save room for a cream tea or two!
Whilst wandering between the adrenalin-pumping shows in the main ring and the sumptuous smells of cake, make sure you take time to visit the craft stalls; the Youth Market tent showcases enterprising secondary school students selling a fantastic selection of edible and craft wares. You could spend hours strolling through the stalls from many local businesses, where you can pick up some goodies to take away – just one way to make extra special fun days out for kids. Coast & Country Cottages welcomes visitors to enter our latest competition to win a £300 holiday voucher. For kids (and big kids) there’s even a giant Connect 4!
From 9.30am to 5.30pm Kingsbridge Show well and truly can offer fun days out for kids and the whole family; so long as you don’t mind the possibility of a bit of mud and embrace the smell of farm animals, this day out is just for you!
Kingsbridge Show is just one of the many highlights in South Devon’s event calendar. If you would be interested in enjoying a holiday in the region, check out the fabulous range of holiday cottages in South Devon available with Coast & Country Cottages.
