Its famous for sailing, stunning views and some of the most desirable real estate in the country.<br \/>\nWe&#8217;ve compiled some Salcombe information on this page, alongside details about where you can find out more.<\/p>\n<h2>Salcombe information in a nutshell<\/h2>\n<p>The earliest known written mention of Salcombe was in 1244. Fishing and smuggling is thought to have made up the bulk of the settlement&#8217;s economy for several hundred years.<\/p>\n<p>At the time of the last UK Census, the population of Salcombe (Parish) was 1,909. The Salcombe and Malborough Ward had a population of 3,353.<\/p>\n<p>Salcombe is 238 miles from the centre of London, 121 miles from Bristol, 111 miles from Land&#8217;s End and 759 miles from John o&#8217; Groats.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/travel\/travel_news\/article-3029016\/In-Salcombe-breathtaking-estuary-views-estimated-worth-whopping-1-3m.html\">average property in Salcombe costs \u00a3671,759<\/a> according to the latest research. That&#8217;s said to be higher than London, and possibly the highest in the country according to some estimates.<\/p>\n<p>Salcombe has been home to many celebrities, including Sir Clive Woodward, Sir Michael Parkinson, Mary Berry and Kate Bush, who have all either lived in the town or owned properties here.<\/p>\n<h2>Salcombe events<\/h2>\n<p>Salcombe&#8217;s biggest events revolve around the town&#8217;s sailing and maritime culture.
