Due to its location on the scenic A379 between Kingsbridge and Start Bay, Frogmore is a village through which many commuters, holidaymakers and visitors pass. We recommend parking up to spend a little time exploring this pretty village, well-known for its excellent bakery\/caf\u00e9, beautiful creek and perhaps most of all, it\u2019s family-focused annual regatta.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s your guide to Frogmore, part of our ongoing series of blog posts on the most picturesque and vibrant villages in South Devon.<\/p>\n

Getting to Frogmore<\/h2>\n

From Kingsbridge<\/h3>\n

Frogmore is about three miles from Kingsbridge.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Leave Kingsbridge south on Embankment Road. This will take you over a bridge across Bowcombe Creek (another beautiful spot!)<\/li>\n
  2. Follow the road for a further two miles or so until you reach the village. You\u2019ll pass the Globe Inn on your left, followed by @The Bakery and then the bridge over the creek to your right.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    From Dartmouth<\/h3>\n

    The village\u00a0is just over 12 miles from Dartmouth.<\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Leave Dartmouth on the A379. Coming from the bottom of town, take a left at the first roundabout at the top of the hill and follow this road.<\/li>\n
    2. Continue on the A379. This will take you through the pretty villages of Stoke Fleming and Strete, and then two fantastic beaches, Blackpool Sands and Slapton Sands.<\/li>\n
    3. The road will bend right away from the coast. Continue on the A379 for 3.5 miles.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      At a glance<\/h2>\n

      Located at the head of Frogmore Creek on the Kingsbridge Estuary, Frogmore was once a bustling port. These days, while the water remains important to the life of the village, particularly during the annual regatta, it\u2019s now better known as a picturesque destination for holidaymakers and day-trippers.<\/p>\n

      The Globe Inn<\/h2>\n

      Along with the bar, there\u2019s a patio and terrace at the Globe Inn, which offers a traditional village pub experience, complete with exposed stone, wooden beams and an open fire. There are plenty of ales to choose from and you\u2019ll even find a separate games room offering darts and pool.<\/p>\n

      Diners can choose from extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, with the Globe Inn\u2019s reputation built on both the friendly, efficient service and the quality of their food.<\/p>\n

      @The Bakery<\/h2>\n

      @The Bakery is a village shop and post office in addition to serving as a bakery so popular it attracts customers from miles around. The team has won several Great Taste Awards since 2010.<\/p>\n

      There\u2019s another branch in Kingsbridge (@11\u2019s Kingsbridge) and from April this year there\u2019s another branch in Salcombe. All are well worth popping in for a pasty, quiche, cake or other snack before finding a scenic spot by the water.<\/p>\n

      Frogmore Creek<\/h2>\n

      The walking guide provided by the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership provides some interesting historical information about Frogmore Creek and the surrounding area. The creek served as a busy quay landing corn and coal until deep into the 19th century, while as many as 27 lime kilns still stand in various spots around the estuary, including Frogmore Creek.<\/p>\n

      Walking from Frogmore to West Charleton along the water\u2019s edge is a great way to see the creek before turning inland and heading north through West Charleton, and finally coming back to the village down public footpaths.<\/p>\n

      Events<\/h2>\n

      Frogmore may be a tranquil rural village, but there\u2019s a strong community spirit which is most evident during its annual events.<\/p>\n

      Frogmore Regatta<\/h3>\n

      This year\u2019s Frogmore Regatta will take place on Sunday 20 August.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Around 1800 people attended the regatta in 2016. This fun annual event involves lots of stalls supplying tasty local food and drink and plenty of competitions, from rowing and raft races on the water to various land (and mud!)-based contests.<\/p>\n

      There are also lots of demonstrations, activities and performances, with 2016\u2019s Frogmore Regatta including Morris dancing, live music from Banned from the Moor, vintage cars and a dog show.<\/p>\n
