Head towards Mill Bay National Trust car park: from East Portlemouth Beach, head inland and take a right, then go straight. You\u2019ll see Mill Bay on your right and the car park in front of you.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28033\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coastandcountry.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/04\/East-Porltmemouth-Mill-Bay.jpg\" alt=\"East Porltmemouth, Mill Bay\" width=\"930\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>2. Go right at the car park, up the hill. Keep to the right for the coastal walk.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/3.-Mill-Bay-Coast-Path-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>3. You\u2019ll soon come to Sunny Cove, giving you the choice of either popping down to the sand for a detour or carrying on along the coastal path. From the path, look back towards the water for stunning views of secluded coves.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26021\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coastandcountry.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/04\/IMG_5598-2.jpg\" alt=\"East Porlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>4. You\u2019ll pass blackberries, sloes and even a plentiful supply of crab apples overhanging the path \u2013 great for foraging if you time it right.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/5.-foraging-on-the-South-West-Coast-Path-by-Sunny-Cove-930x584.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>5. You\u2019ll come to a gate, which signifies that there may be sheep grazing in this area, so please keep your dog under close control.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/6.-gate-between-Sunny-Cove-and-Gara-Rock-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As the path veers back towards the coastline, you will be able to see the beaches of North Sands and South Sands, the opposite side of the estuary.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26023\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coastandcountry.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/04\/IMG_5605-2.jpg\" alt=\"East Porlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>6. The trail will take you past a memorial plaque, dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives in the Salcombe Lifeboat Disaster of 1910.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/7.-Salcombe-Lifeboat-Disaster-Memorial-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>7. When you come to the Gara Rock signpost, head right to go down to the beach or left to make your way to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gararock.com\/eat-drink\/restaurant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Gara Rock restaurant<\/a> for a well deserved bite to eat or refreshing drink whilst watching the magnificent scenery from their restaurant or outside seating area.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/9.-gara-rock-waymaker-930x584.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>9. Head back up the trail towards the white building above. When you reach the top, take a right, going along the left side of the hotel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/11.-Coast-Path-by-Gara-Rock-Hotel-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>11. With the hotel on your right, walk up the road until you come to a Coast Path sign, pointing to a stile to your left. Go over the stile.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/12.-Inland-trail-by-Gara-Rock-Hotel-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>12. Cross the car park to the next sign, almost directly opposite.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/13.-Mill-Bay-inland-route-marker-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>13. Follow this trail.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/14.-Mill-Bay-inland-route-2-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<p>14. When the trail reaches a muddy track, cross the track and go through the gate opposite.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/15.-coast-path-near-Mill-Bay-crossing-track-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>15. Follow this path, which will lead directly back to the Mill Bay car park.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/16.-footpath-above-mill-bay-national-trust-car-park-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>16. Turn right at the end of the car park.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/17.-mill-bay-national-trust-car-park-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>17. Option 1: simply follow the road back along the coast to where you began.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/08\/19.-coast-path-by-east-portlemouth-beach-930x618.jpg\" alt=\"East Portlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"618\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Option 2: at low tide, you can walk along the beach back to the East Portlemouth ferry slipway.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-26024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.coastandcountry.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/04\/IMG_5615-2.jpg\" alt=\"East Porlemouth to Gara Rock walk\" width=\"930\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<p>There\u2019s a Venus Takeaway at East Portlemouth beach, another great option for picking up a bite or a drink as you enjoy the stunning view of Salcombe across the estuary.
