In South Devon you\u2019ll find that inspiration is never far away. Throughout the year, hobbyists and professional artists are a familiar sight at the region\u2019s most picturesque locations, so why not dust off your brushes and bring them along on your next break?<\/p>\n<p>We teamed up with Salcombe Art Club to see how some local artists would interpret one of the region\u2019s most iconic sights \u2013 the view of the charming waterside village of Dittisham, near Dartmouth. Here are some fascinating time-lapse videos of the paintings being created:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<h3><strong>The Artists<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coastandcountry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Jennys-picture-resized.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/12\/Jennys-picture-resized.jpg\" alt=\"Jenny Johnson\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Jennifer Johnson is an artist, illustrator and tutor, who has been painting professionally for 50 years. After completing an art degree in Buckinghamshire, Jenny worked as a graphic designer for BBC Publications, designing and illustrating a host of books. Jenny now teaches regular classes at Salcombe Art Club, exhibits at Modbury\u2019s Brownston Gallery and accepts private portrait commissions. Find out more at jenniferjohnsonartist.co.uk.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coastandcountry.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/tony-with-his-painting-resized.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/12\/tony-with-his-painting-resized.jpg\" alt=\"Tony Henderson\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Former professional jazz pianist Tony Henderson is largely self-taught as an artist, a pastime he took up in middle age. Tony went on to paint, exhibit and teach art classes in Bath, becoming an elected member of the prestigious Bath Society of Artists. Like many South Devon residents, Tony was drawn to South Devon by the inspiring scenery. Find out more at: salcombeartclub.org.uk\/tony-henderson.html<\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<h3><strong>The View<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Dittisham is a beautiful riverside village, two miles up the Dart from the estuary at Dartmouth and home to the cosy Ferry Boat Inn, the popular Anchorstone Caf\u00e9 and Dittisham Boats for hiring a range of vessels.<\/p>\n<p>When tasked with interpreting this stunning scene the artists set about choosing a vantage point that would stimulate their artistic appetites. They opted to cross the river to Greenway Quay, on the edge of the wonderful Greenway Estate, the National Trust-owned former home of Dame Agatha Christie. This provided wonderful views of the village \u2013 perfect for our artists to work with.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"fancy-divider\" \/>\n<h3><strong>The creations!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Within 90 minutes, the paintings were complete except for the final touches that, as we learned, watercolour artists often make once the paint has dried.
