The property

This quaint, detached house of Lauriston, which was originally the home of acclaimed author and poet Flora Thompson, who wrote Larkrise to Candleford, is set in the seaside in Brixham, Devon.

Lauriston is a perfect location for a family of eight's seaside break, being within reach of the South Devon AONB and a wealth of beaches.

When you arrive, park in one of the two off-road parking places before ascending the steps to this warm and inviting home-away-from-home.

Hang your belongings in the hallway before entering the sitting room, where the exposed stonework and woodburning fire provide a pleasant ambience, perfect for a movie night with the Smart TV.

A snug can be located across the hall, where you can relax in one of the leather armchairs with a good book; a second snug (or 5th bedroom) rests on the second floor, where you can relax and watch TV.

Get to know your surroundings by walking into the town's centre, where you'll find the Brixham Heritage Museum, the Golden Hind Museum Ship, and the Brixham Harbour, as well as a variety of friendly eateries and shops. Spend some time on Berry Head, where anglers can take advantage of the fishing point, history buffs can visit the Berry Head Lighthouse, and walkers can wander down the South West Coastal Path and into the Berry Head National Nature Reserve; St Mary's Bay is a little further along the coast. Travel a short distance to Churston Cove, where you'll find other beaches, such as Churston Cove and Elberry Cove, as well as a renowned golf course.

There's still plenty to see in the surrounding region, from the charming towns of Dartmouth and Paignton to the historic treasures of The Daymark and Kingswear Castle; you'll never be bored.

Brixham is a working fishing harbour located on the southern side of Torbay, the area known as The English Riviera, famed for its sunny mild climate all year round. The focal point of the harbour is a life size replica of The Golden Hind, Sir Francis Drake’s ship. The prettiest part of Brixham has small cottages in hilly narrow winding lanes leading to the harbour where all the activity is centred. Home to Britain’s largest fishing fleet which regularly lands their catch in the harbour, Brixham fish market sells to major restaurants in the UK. Brixham is the ideal destination for a traditional holiday with many family attractions around Torbay including two Blue Flag beaches, Paignton Zoo and many regattas and maritime events throughout the year. There are a host of safe cycle trails in the area, the South West Coastal Path and some of the best golf courses in the region. A good mix of relaxation or action, to suit all ages, where you are never far from the sea.
