Great location for castle and not too far from Dartmouth centre and a great view of the river dart, we would certainly stay again
We were so pleased to hear that you loved your stay, and the wonderful views, from 1 Galion's Quay in Dartmouth. We do agree that the fantastic location of this property means that you can enjoy the best of both worlds - being able to explore both historic Dartmouth Castle and walk easily to Dartmouth's shops, art galleries and restaurants. We were delighted to hear that you would certainly stay again and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Owner relations
“Love the property been twice now but I do think that a little maintenance is required.”
.....garden especially, such a shame to let things get overgrown to obstruct the view
“For the beginning of the season very grubby.”
e.g dinning chair covers very dirty and badly stained.Bedding not much better, stained and looked quiet old .Beds themselves felt knackered.Pillows so old had no gutts left in them and suggest the cleaner looks under the bed in lower bedroom, disgusting. Also go prepared to do a lot of washing up even though it has a dishwasher because i do not think anyone uses it,no cleaning things supplied and everything left dirty. very disappointed. Only good thing is the view .
“Property could have been better cleaned.”
It's the small things that always count most. The steps outside and the entrance was very shabby. It's a lovely spot but needs more attention to detail.
“Outside areas in need of attention.”
Brambles need clearing. Shrubs need pruning. Front steps need sweeping.
“Both doubles bed mattresses where very uncomfortable and you could hear the springs, could not get a good nights sleep, the plumbing in the kitchen made a lot of gurgling noises worse in the evening don't know if number 1 and 2 have the same plumbing.”
Lovely spot views beautiful needs some maintenance, garden also.
“Ideal location and the property was generally in good condition.”
It was a shame that there was not a BBQ on site. The lower ground bedroom and bathroom smelt a little musty and the bathroom had certainly seen better days. We did enjoy our time there.
“An excellent position and lovely views (although some gardening needed to maintain these)!”
“Lovely property with terrific views, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.”
There were however a number of minor irritations which owners may like to take on board: Dishwasher filter was badly clogged and obviously hadn't been cleaned for a VERY long time. Kitchen wasn't very well equipped - no cafetiere or other coffee making equipment, only one saucepan lid, no plugs for sink which was a nuisance as the washing up bowl is tiny. Also no information specific to the property so we had to phone C&C to find out about rubbish collection or recycling system, we spent the weekend boiling kettles for hot water before eventually finding a very small notice 6 feet up the utility room wall giving instructions for the emersion heater. Tracks for the large sliding window in the lounge are badly clogged with debris which makes them difficult to slide and could eventually lead to them jamming. Only one small travel hairdryer and no mirror in bedrooms when using it was less than ideal. No steam iron - can't remember the last time I saw an old fashioned non-steam flat iron! All small things but for the rental charged I would have expected a little more attention to detail. I had a holiday rental property which was QiT 4* Gold for many years despite being a lot smaller than Galions Quay, largely because of the attention to detail. As I said at the beginning, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would certainly consider booking again but it would be nice to see a little more pride taken in the property.
“View second to none, but not having read the access statement thoroughly the variety of level changes was challenging for those less mobile.”
the dining table in the conservatory looked nice but as it had no blinds when the sun shone it was unbearably hot and we resorted to wearing sun hats indoors.
Many thanks for your review in respect of 1 Galion's Quay. We were grateful for your feedback regarding the property and will investigate during the next property changeover. We do hope you enjoyed your stay despite the issues raised and do look forward to welcoming back to Dartmouth again in the very near future.
“Lack of information in property regarding rubbish disposal and recycling instructions.”
Several light bulbs over bathroom sinks not working. No power to socket in conservatory. Lack of suitable cereal bowls in the crockery - only 3 plastic bowls available. Otherwise lovely property and fabulous views - we would return!
“The best view in Dartmouth!”
“We (two adults, one 2yr old and one senior) stayed at this property between the 8-15th August, 2015.”
The views are absolutely stunning and the definite selling point of the property. The photos on the website are accurate and as you open the main gate, the view of the river and Waynefleet Creek is simply breathtaking. The deck is much bigger than the photos on the website show and there must have been some renovation, as the palm tree is no longer there. It is a fantastic place to sit in the sunshine, with plenty of room. The view from the living room is even better and the view from the master bedroom better still. We were happy with the fixtures and fittings, the property is well-equipped and we had everything we needed, apart from a mirror in the downstairs bathroom. The downstairs area, with its own conservatory, is perfect for a little privacy but the stairs are a bit steep for the frail and young. Our son absolutely loved the galley bed. We were grateful for the stairgates, as the stairs and outside steps to the deck are rather steep but the house is generally child-friendly. There is one parking space immediately outside the property, which is very useful, but it is a bit tight and we were glad we took our Golf rather than the estate. The roads to the property are also rather tricky, narrowing to one-way traffic at times and, as the house is a stone's throw from the castle, it got busy at times, but not so that it bothered us too much. The walk into Dartmouth is very, very pleasant - pretty and not too hilly. It was, however, too far for 76yr old to manage as it took about 15 minutes. For toddlers, a pram would be very useful. The Castle ferry was just 3 minutes walk away but the steps down to the boat (not a ferry like those that run in town) were too steep for us to use it as a family. Some reviews have mentioned that the carpets etc. are looking rather tired and stained and this is true, but it obviously doesn't spoil your holiday. We had a great week and Galions Quay was a fantastic base. The weather wasn't great, which was heartbreaking, as the views are amazing in the sunshine and this is the only reason we didn't immediately re-book for the same time next year.

“This is mixed.”
.... The view from the property is stunning and always changing, well situated. Pleased to see that the garden had been addressed this year enabling such views. The property is comfortable and the wifi assisted with our pre-teen when the weather was bad. Some improvements have been made since last year, although I think the property needs a little more maintenance/upkeep/attention......sliding windows in the living area are so stiff needs replacing or new runners, why have such a fab view if you can't open up and make the most of it? Heaters, half don't work, this really needs addressing as the downstairs bedroom wasn't just cold it was damp and musty smelling, writes off a double bedroom. We've been to this property twice before and it seems to be in need of some tlc now, would we come again? Possibly but I think unlikely.
“The view as you walk into the living room is breathtaking and much closer than appears in the pictures, the same view from the master bedroom is even better as you are higher up.”
Our 1st impression of the kitchen was that there is no welcome pack which we found unusual, as the basics are usually always found with self catering premises in our experience. There wasn't much crockery, particularly bowls and catering for 6 people would be difficult, also some plastic containers for the fridge would have been useful. Instructions for use of the hob would have been helpful left in the kitchen as we tried for 2 hours trying to work it out and then ordered a takeaway, later to find instructions hidden away in a cupboard in the living room. Very comfy sofas in the living room and dining places for 8 in the conservatory off the living room again with some amazing views which at night are really pretty with the lights of Kingswear and Dartmouth. The master bedroom is large and the bed is VERY firm. There is a travel hairdryer supplied but no mirror so we brought the one up from the downstairs hall to keep in the bedroom. The downstairs bedroom with its own bathroom and conservatory did smell a bit musty but once opened up it was fine although the bathroom was a bit tired. There is an allocated parking space (one for each property) immediately outside the which is very tight particularly if both cars are not small. The roads to the property from town are quite narrow (one-way traffic in places) and probably quite congested in peak holiday time. The stroll into Dartmouth is pretty with gentle slopes and takes 15 mins, allowing for some sightseeing. If you didn't fancy walking into Dartmouth the Castle ferry (small boat) was just a few minutes walk from the house but only runs until 5pm. You really can't beat the views and overall we loved our stay so much so that we have re-booked for next May!

“The house has much improved from our last visit and there is nothing negative to say, although a chair in the main bedroom would have been useful and there is still no cafetiere!”
Unfortunately the decking lets the house down. Previously it was a simple wooden decking with decent table and chairs. Now it is dirty pea shingle with weeds, rickety furniture (probably because of the shingle) and extremely worn child's slide, etc. and the rail down the steps is not safe. However why leave the house for the garden when you have those views!
“This property is situated in the best location with beautiful views onto the river.”
It is a house I would recommend highly. I do have to comment on a couple of things that I think need attending to and this is aimed at the owners. For a beautiful house, the outside could do with a clean as it is quite dirty. The floor in the ensuite of the downstairs bedroom is soft underfoot ,the carpet in the hall and lounge are quite stained. Please don't let these comments put anyone off,I would return tomorrow if I could

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth.
