  • “The location, layout and views from the property are excellent and we had a wonderful week.”

We enjoyed eating out on the decking, children played happily in the garden and we walked down to idyllic beaches (top pick: Sunny Cove Beach, a 20 min walk from the property - lots of ups and downs, not buggy friendly but a lovely walk!), enjoying the coastal walk to Gara Rock and catching the ferry over to Salcombe. ...

However, a few things were broken or weren't working very well, which was annoying: clothes airer is broken, washing machine didn't seem to have a proper spin function and left our clothes sodden, microwave seemed to overheat and switch off after only a couple of minutes - then need to wait before it switches back on. Also you can feel the springs in the beds when lying down and the bed in the master bedroom needs to be replaced. It all just seems to lack a bit of attention to detail. I had already read some dodgy reviews so was not expecting everything to be perfect. But if we had paid full high season price though, I think I would expect these niggles would have been addressed. Please also note if you have young children that there are some very steep steps off the decking and that the multi level garden has some big unfenced drops. Fine though if there are no babies and toddlers around and the views from the garden are sensational! We would consider booking this property again for the location and the views.

About the location

EAST PORTLEMOUTH

South Pool 3 miles; Kingsbridge 8; Salcombe 1 mile (by passenger ferry) 15.8 miles (by car).

East Portlemouth is a tranquil village nestled on the southern edge of the Kingsbridge Estuary in the South Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The small number of properties that make up this settlement are scattered on the hillside and around the cliff, with part of the village once being home to Coastguards employed during the nineteenth century to prevent any smuggling on this section of the South West Coast Path.
Nowadays the village offers a little cafe (open only on dry days) and a number of tiny peaceful beaches - Fisherman's Cove, Smalls Cove and Mill Bay - all of which have been awarded Safe Bathing status.
Further inland situated creekside, is the pretty village of South Pool with its delightful pub, the Millbrook Inn. A haven for food-lovers, this establishment serves a heady combination of fresh English ingredients with traditional Galic cooking.
Just across the estuary is the popular resort of Salcombe with its charming independent boutiques and plentiful selection of cafes, bars and restaurants, which can be reached easily by a five minute pedestrian ferry ride. Further down the coast are the historic town of Dartmouth with its Castle and the bustling city of Plymouth with its museums, aquarium, theatres, shopping and the Barbican.

Children should be supervised at all times when using terrace/garden.

No pets permitted.

Please be aware, due to the nature of the town, several of our properties are situated up hills. Please contact our reservations team if you would like more information about the location of this property.”
