    “You cannot fault the position of this property, it really is location, location, location!”

    However overall the property is tired and much need of updating. The veneer is peeling off the kitchen cupboards. There were no wardrobes in 2 of the 4 bedrooms. The drawer units in the bunk room are broken and do not close/open properly, they go sideways, very strange. The built in wardrobe in the twin room smells extremely musty. I am glad we did not pay high season price for this property as I would have been extremely disappointed. I think this property needs a lick of paint ...

I wouldn't rate the quality of the accommodation any higher than 3 stars, the view is of course 5 star.

The property

Ferryside is a large terraced just a stone’s throw from East Portlemouth Beach in Salcombe on the Devonshire coast. Recently renovated, the property is well appointed and comfortably furnished throughout, and with four bedrooms it’s perfect for a group holiday. Off the entrance hallway there’s a cloakroom that’s ideal for storing wetsuits and towels after a day on the waves.

On the opposite side of the hall is a small shower room complete with power shower. On the ground floor you’ll find an airy living room consisting of a comfortable sitting area and large dining table.

Sliding doors lead out on to the terrace where you’ll stumble upon incredible views out over the water. Also on the ground floor is Ferryside’s kitchen which is fully equipped for all your culinary needs and a further door out onto the terrace meaning you’ll never miss out on the views.

Upstairs you’ll find the four bedrooms, the first of which is a family suite consisting of two adjacent rooms.

One has a set of bunk beds - a single up above a double bed – whilst the second contains a king-size bed and further estuary views.

There’s a further double room and the final bedroom contains a pair of single beds. Also on the first floor is the main bathroom, with a bath and cubicle with a power shower. Outside is Ferryside’s biggest draw, its stunning terrace with panoramic views out over the estuary.

Tables and chairs mean you can soak in the views over an alfresco meal after which you can use private steps down to the beach for a stroll in the sun. Both swing and running moorings may be available on request if you fancy heading out on the water yourself. Salcombe is the perfect place for a summer holiday, with countless beaches and the South Devon AONB right on the doorstep.

Or if you’re after a bit of an adrenaline rush you can try your hand at a spot of surfing! Venture along the coastline to experience the other seaside market towns such as Dartmouth and Newton Abbot, or even spend a day in bustling Plymouth or Exeter for a bit of city life. East Portlemouth is a tranquil village nestled on the southern edge of the Kingsbridge Estuary in the South Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The small number of properties that make up this settlement are scattered on the hillside and around the cliff, with part of the village once being home to Coastguards employed during the nineteenth century to prevent any smuggling on this section of the South West Coast Path. Nowadays the village offers a little cafe (open only on dry days) and a number of tiny peaceful beaches - Fisherman's Cove, Smalls Cove and Mill Bay - all of which have been awarded Safe Bathing status. Further inland situated creekside, is the pretty village of South Pool with its delightful pub, the Millbrook Inn. A haven for food-lovers, this establishment serves a heady combination of fresh English ingredients with traditional Galic cooking. Just across the estuary is the popular resort of Salcombe with its charming independent boutiques and plentiful selection of cafes, bars and restaurants, which can be reached easily by a five minute pedestrian ferry ride. Further down the coast are the historic town of Dartmouth with its Castle and the bustling city of Plymouth with its museums, aquarium, theatres, shopping and the Barbican.

All duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels are provided. Tenants will need to bring their own beach towels. A running mooring (suitable for a small boat) is available during summer months and a permanent swing mooring may be available upon request (please contact us for more details). One well behaved dog permitted. Please note that there is a drop from the top of the terrace wall to the beach below of approx.15' at low tide and the estuary at high tide - young children must therefore be supervised at all times. Log burner is decorative and not in use. All bed linen and towels are supplied. You will need to bring your own tea towels and beach towels.
