“Broad Downs Barn is a very nice conversion in a quiet location.”
The layout of the barn is very good with two bedrooms downstairs and 4 upstairs. Kitchen and Dining table are adequate for 12-14 people and the living area too. The outdoor space is also very nice and peaceful, with views over the countryside. The large open grass area is great for kids to play in. The swimming pool is very nice and kept at a great temperature, The few times we could use it due to the weather we really enjoyed it. The kitchen is good but missing some larger pans / dishes for large Groups. We managed but it would have been nice to have some larger saucepans / frying pans and oven dishes. The wifi is very slow and consideration should be given to upgrading it. We had four children on their iPads and they got very frustrated ! The outdoor furniture is a little worn, needs some maintenance. Be careful ! Overall we enjoyed the stay very much and I would recommend this place to others visiting the Salcombe area.- CHRIS, Jul 2016

“A wonderful long weekend spent at Broad Downs Barn to celebrate a special birthday with 12 friends.”
The barn was beautifully appointed, very spacious, modern and warm and great to have ample shower/bathrooms. Good walks to be had nearby, a good choice of restaurants and pubs wherever we visited and a nice selection of shops in Salcombe. “Accommodation is of a very high standard.”- , Sep 2014
“Broad Downs Barn was a wonderful house for our holiday with three adult children and spouses and three young grandchildren.”
The kitchen was well equipped and spacious, as was the sitting room. Beds were comfortable and it was great to have so many shower rooms, and a family bathroom to cope with the large numbers. The grounds were child friendly, the trampoline, or'bouncing bean' was a great hit with young and not so young! We were fortunate to have a beautiful week so the swimming pool was used every day and a great delight.- , Jul 2014

About the location
Chatsworth 1 mile; Bakewell 5 miles.
The pretty village of Baslow lies at the north end of stately Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The village has many unusual and picturesque features including a triple-arched river bridge guarded by a toll house whose doorway is only 3 1/2 feet high! Baslow offers a range of village amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants. Close by is Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. Bakewell is at the scenic heart of the Peak District, and with Alton Towers also within easy touring distance, there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
There are two extra folding chair-beds (for children under 16 only) available on request at the time of booking. The outdoor heated swimming pool is only available between the May and September, please check with the office for confirmed dates (shared with the main farmhouse.)
