3 luxury dog-friendly holiday cottages

By Ross Purdy on June 15, 2016

Some people believe that taking a well-deserved luxury break has to mean leaving the family’s four-legged members behind. They feel they’re stuck with a choice between ‘slumming it’ somewhere that welcomes dogs, or leaving their canine companion at home and then wrestling with the guilt for the entire duration of their holiday.

But in fact, it’s a choice that doesn’t have to be made. Down here in South Devon we offer a range of holiday homes that are both dog-friendly and luxurious.

The home of luxury dog-friendly holiday cottages

With miles of the South West Coast Path to explore, countless walking trails, some of the country’s best beaches, and a huge number of pet-friendly pubs and restaurants to explore, South Devon is a paradise for pooches.

You’ll see from these three luxury dog-friendly properties that there’s plenty for people too!

1. Sundowners, Salcombe

One well behaved pet permitted (two small dogs may be allowed with the owner’s agreement)

Sundowners, a VisitEngland Five Star-awarded detached house within 15 minutes walk of Salcombe’s picturesque waterfront, was fully renovated in 2013 to the highest standards.

Sundowners

Offering beautiful views of Salcombe and the estuary, Sundowners sits in an elevated part of the town on Herbert Road. There are four tastefully-decorated bedrooms on the first floor, including two en-suite double bedrooms (the master boasts a King-size bed and lovely views) and two twin rooms. In addition to the comfortable, light and sunny sitting room there’s a cosy snug with Sky HD, an Xbox 360, sofa-bed and pouffe.

2. The Linhay, near Dartmouth

One well-behaved dog welcome

The Linhay is a luxuriously-converted three-bedroom barn, within a beautiful, unspoilt farmland setting. It’s hard to imagine a more idyllic backdrop for a holiday.

Set in the delightful grounds of Higher Ash Farm and just two miles from the famous naval town of Dartmouth, the Linhay is just a short drive from Start Bay with its long, dog-friendly beaches of fine shingle. Season permitting, the farm also produces fresh fruit, vegetables and eggs for sale to guests.

The interior of this spacious holiday home is as impressive as the landscape that surrounds it, as it combines modern styling with original features such as cross beams and exposed stone walls.

The Linhay is both luxurious and dog-friendly.
