‘Devon’s Big Day Out’  is coming!

In just a few weeks Devon County Show takes place at Westpoint Showground, near Exeter. Billed as ‘Devon’s Big Day Out’, this annual three day event (21st-23rd May) provides something for everyone. Here are just some of the highlights, not to be missed at this year’s event…

Fun, Fun, Fun

For families with young children, there is an abundance of activities and attractions aimed at younger visitors. Why not head to the new interactive section ‘Farm Wise Devon’ – this fun new area is designed to show children exactly how their food is produced. From watching the dairy cows being milked, to making apples into apple juice and meeting the chickens and calves, there is so much to see and do.

As well as this fascinating new area, there is also a treasure hunt for the children around the showground, not to mention sheep shearing, a fun fair and a motocross stunt team with displays in the main ring every day.

For animal lovers…

From alpacas to goats, cattle and chickens, there are huge numbers of animals at the show. Walk around the various marquees spotting the different breeds of sheep or poultry, or watch the showing classes take place. With up to 600 beef and dairy cattle, more than 1400 sheep and over 1000 horses, animal lovers will not be disappointed!

Love to shop?

Shopaholics, don’t forget to bring your wallets… with various shopping marquees, and numerous shops, you can easily spend the day browsing the many outlets. Check out the latest cars or hot tubs on display, pick up an outfit or two in the country clothing shops, or buy a unique present for friends or family in the craft marquee.

Men and machines…

For those interested in all things mechanical, there is a range of tractors and machinery on display, or why not head to the vintage machinery area where you can watch the historic steam engines in action – there are also a number of rugby games and army displays over the course of the three days.

Food, Glorious Food!

For fans of good food, you will be spoilt for choice. Visit the Food Marquee, where you can pick up a delicious pork pie, a mouth-watering ice cream, or an indulgent chocolate fondue. From hog roasts to scallop baps, the lunch choices are endless. With food stands from local producers across Devon, you can pick up everything from fudge to cheese – delicious!

With all of this and so much more, the 120th Devon County Show is well worth a visit this May. Why not incorporate it within your plans for a holiday in Devon. For a fabulous choice of self catering accommodation available with Coast & Country Cottages, click here.
