We are very excited to announce that we are sponsoring the Delicious Dart Trail 2014! This event billed as a “food festival on the run” is perfect for foodies and fitness enthusiasts alike! Along the 15 mile route runners will be treated to samples of delicious local food and drink whilst seeing the spectacular countryside with views of the Dart Estuary from Dartington to Dartmouth.
Whilst being a lot of fun for the participants the proceeds go to the fantastic charity CHICKS, which provides disadvantaged children in the UK with free, week-long respite breaks in the countryside and by the sea, at their retreats in Devon and Cornwall. The children supported by CHICKS are from many different backgrounds, from living in poverty, those that are mistreated or neglected, to young people who have lost their parents or are full time carers. The money raised allows these young people an opportunity to act their age, have fun with other children and enjoy a much needed break. This year the charity aim to help approximately 1,200 by providing them with a free break -donations of all amounts will help CHICKS to achieve their goal.
Saturday 1st March 2014 will be the second year the Delicious Dart Trail will take place and it has already sold out! However there are plenty of destinations along the way for spectators to enjoy stunning local food and support the participants. Fancy dress is encouraged, this year‘s theme is ‘Monsters and Aliens” and with 350 runners taking part it will be quite a spectacular sight!
The run not only raises money for an incredible charity but is supported by many of the fantastic local food producers we work closely with and promote to visitors to the area. Runners will enjoy 12 stops along the way with a huge selection of local food and drinks to be savoured in idyllic locations. Participants start off at Dartington Hall, setting off between 9am-11am, and can enjoy highlights along the way such as award-winning cheeses and wines in the Sharpham Estate, fresh fruit pavlovas from Riverford Field Kitchen and Quercus Devon Ales to quench the thirst at The Maltsters Arms in Tuckenhay, whilst Moby Nick’s will be serving fresh paella at The Ferry Boat Inn using seafood from our local waters.
Further along the way, Dartmouth Ice Cream Company will be serving Agatha Christie’s favourite flavour, blackcurrant, in the grounds of her former holiday home, whilst the thought of scrumptious RockFish fish and chips will lure competitors across the river to Dartmouth waterfront, before finishing at Café Alf Resco which will be open all day for spectators and runners to relax after the race.
The team from Coast & Country Cottages are already in training for the event and will be welcoming participants to the finish line. Visit the website if you wish to find out more about CHICKS and to donate to the charity.
