Coast & Country Cottages team training for the Delicious Dart Trail

Coast & Country Cottages are sponsoring the Delicious Dart Trail for the second consecutive year, and four of the Salcombe based team members are delighted to be participating in the event. Suzy Pile, Assistant Operations Manager, Amy Gardiner, Assistant Marketing Campaign and Creative Editor, Gwen Ripley, Sales Administrator, and Holly Doherty, Property Administrator, have all been busy training for this unique charity event, which raises money for CHICKS. On 7th March 350 participants will run 15 grueling miles through some of the county’s most stunning countryside, from Dartington Hall to the finish in Dartmouth. Along the way they will stop off at some of the South West’s award-winning food and drink producers and establishments, tasting more than a dozen different beers, wines, liqueurs, savouries and puddings. New for 2015, there will be a special Spectator Trail around Dartmouth to welcome competitors over the finish line, and a food market in the Old Market Square from 12-5pm.

Delicious Dart Trail runner Amy Gardiner, comments: “I am thoroughly looking forward to the event and sampling some of the delicious produce from local producers including Sharpham Wine and Cheese, Tideford Organics and Riverford Field Kitchen.” Amy continues: “We are really getting into the fun spirit of the event at Coast & Country Cottages and have some brilliant nursery rhyme themed fancy dress outfits ready for the day. Some of the team will also be cheering us over the finish line at Dartmouth Market.”

Proceeds raised from the Delicious Dart Trail will be donated to CHICKS, a Devon-based charity which provides disadvantaged children in the UK with free, week-long respite breaks in the countryside and by the sea, at their retreats in Devon and Cornwall. The children supported by CHICKS are from many different backgrounds, from those living in poverty, or are mistreated or neglected, to young people who have lost their parents or are full time carers. The money raised allows these young people an opportunity to act their age, have fun with other children and enjoy a much needed break.

Commenting on behalf of Coast & Country Cottages, Director Karen Jones says: “This exciting event not only aims to raise considerable funds for a very worthwhile charity, but combines the stunning scenery and delicious local produce we are promoting every day to our customers with a great running experience through the beautiful South Devon countryside to Dartmouth.” Karen continues: “It would be fantastic to see as many people out as possible helping to cheer on the incredible efforts of all the participants and support our local food and drink producers.”

Coast & Country Cottages also chose to support this important local charity at Christmas by sending a cheque for £500 to CHICKS, instead of sending out hundreds of Christmas cards to property owners. The agency is delighted that this support, combined with the sponsorship for the Delicious Dart Trail has resulted in a £1000 donation to CHICKS in the last few months alone.
