December 1st, 2017 | By Vicky Rogers
Like our locally-based team down here in South Devon, we hope you have enjoyed the second series of the BBC One daytime TV drama, The Coroner, which was filmed in our region. Starring former ‘Casualty’ actors Claire Goose and Matt Bardock, this show took in some of the most striking scenery in our part of the country. The Coroner filming locations include:
- Hope Cove
- Burgh Island, Bantham and Bigbury-On-Sea
- Salcombe (the main inspiration for ‘Lighthaven’)
For those inspired by the countryside and coastline that have appeared in the series, why not consider booking a short break or longer holiday in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty? Here are just some of The Coroner filming locations that you can choose for your break, along with some self-catering holiday property suggestions.
A quaint fishing village and former smuggler’s haunt, Hope Cove’s unspoilt beaches, atmospheric eateries and stunning location on the South West Coast Path make it one of the most-loved seaside spots in South Devon.
Sturdy boots are recommended!
At Coast & Country Cottages, we offer around 30 holiday properties in Hope Cove. Spend a fun day on the beach trying new watersports or rockpooling before strolling back to your home-from-home to enjoy the views in comfort and style.

The Coroner filming locations have included iconic locations on the Start Bay coastline around Dartmouth, with scenes of Start Point lighthouse, Blackpool Sands and the Dartmouth ferry amongst other scenic spots.
One particularly memorable scene from The Coroner, the kidnapping during series two’s ‘Pieces of Eight’ episode, took place on Dartmouth’s Foss Street, a walkway well-known for its plethora of independent shops and galleries.
Beautiful Bayard’s Cove (pictured below) is one of the most common Coroner filming locations throughout both series. It’s not hard to understand why!
