For foodies, seafood lovers or those who want to experience some wonderful local produce, South Devon will not disappoint. With numerous restaurants, cafés, delis and farm shops, there are so many different options when deciding what to eat and where!

We have put together a guide of the best places to eat in the different locations you can see in our #7DaysInSouthDevon video so that you can enjoy every aspect of the area.

Blackpool Sands

Blackpool Sands

Blackpool Sands is a fantastic beach to visit for those who don’t want to have to worry about taking a picnic. With the Venus Café serving an array of foods for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, you really don’t have to plan ahead – although booking for dinner is advisable to avoid disappointment. The Venus breakfast is a lovely way to start a day, enjoying a croissant and coffee whilst looking over the beautiful beach and out to sea. You can get something from the take-away for lunch, the paninis come highly recommended from our team, and savour it as you relax on the sand. Dinner at Venus is a slightly more formal affair with the café becoming a restaurant in the evening and allowing you to indulge in some of the most mouthwatering seafood to really make an occasion of your day at Blackpool Sands. If you wanted a bit of variety, the nearby town of Dartmouth offers many options for dining out including Mitch Tonks’ Rockfish fish and chips and Café Alf Resco for breakfast.

Torcross

The Start Bay Inn at Torcross, another location from our video, is a traditional thatched-roofed pub and a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike; serving a great range of seafood and pub classics such as fish and chips and whole South Devon crab. The Start Bay Inn also offers a take-away option so you can indulge in fish and chips on the beach. There is also the nearby Stokeley Farm Shop perfect for sourcing gorgeous local produce for your self-catering holiday.

Beesands

If you enjoy seafood, head to Beesands and experience the delicious dishes served at Britannia @ the beach. Britannia of Beesands brings the freshest local fish and seafood direct from the boats of Salcombe and Dartmouth and combine knowledge of the produce and skill as chefs to create some beautifully crafted seafood dishes that are really amongst the best in South Devon. A relaxed atmosphere, the shack, as the Britannia restaurant is fondly called by locals, allows well behaved dogs and runs a ‘bring your own’ policy for wine and other alcohol so, for an evening with a difference, make sure to make a reservation today! Beesands is lucky enough to be home to two brilliant places to eat with the local pub, The Cricket Inn, serving a mouth-watering menu throughout the year with an exceptionally good roast dinner on a Sunday!

Kingsbridge

Kingsbridge

From Thai to Tapas, fish and chips to Indian, there is something in Kingsbridge to suit all tastes. With local twists on classics, the restaurants in Kingsbridge are some of the best in the area with Café Asia being one of the most popular in South Devon; whether you eat in or take-away. The Crabshell Inn is another popular restaurants in Kingsbridge and with the buzzing atmosphere and picturesque waterside location, it is not hard to see why! For something a bit more exotic, try the Old Bakery. This quirky restaurant serves some stunning Mediterranean tapas and is the place to go for an informal occasion!

Hope Cove

Hope Cove is known for its beautiful beaches and stunning views but recently, The Hope and Anchor has undergone a dramatic makeover and is now as much of a reason to visit the village as its beaches. Offering what they describe as ‘stylish pub grub’, the Hope and Anchor is open daily with a breakfast menu that is available from 8.30am – perfect to for those early risers on holiday.

Beach Barbecues

Of course, you don’t have to be restrained by the places to eat in each area. One of our favourite things to do is to take a barbecue to one of the many beaches in South Devon and watch the sunset as the food is sizzling away – be sure to check which beaches are barbecue friendly. Using local produce for your barbeque is easy and one of our favourite places to source barbeque food is Aune Valley – an award winning butcher and farm shop located just outside Loddiswell.

As you can see, we are spoilt for choice with places to eat in South Devon so, for lovers of food, there really is nowhere better to spend a holiday!
