There’s always plenty to see and do whilst on holiday in South Devon with all the beaches and countryside to explore. However if you find that you are in need of some inspiration the local community always put on fantastic events with lots to see and do, here’s our pick of activities during half term.
Have you ever wanted to get out on the water whilst in South Devon but never had the opportunity? Try A Boat For Free is an exciting “On the Water” event in Dartmouth to encourage non-boaters to find out what they are missing. Head down to the South Embankment in Dartmouth on 24th and 25th May from 10am – 4pm to have a go!
For the little ones who are never seen out of their fancy dress visit Greenway for a Fairy Day on the 25th May 2014 between 2-4pm. Come dressed in your best fairy or pirate costumes and join Fairy Queen Camellia for fun and adventures!
If you are staying in the Slapton area why not spend the afternoon at East Prawle Fair on Sunday 25th May from 2pm at the Village Green. Enjoy all the old favourite attractions such as swing boats, donkey rides, children’s train ride, test your strength, slippery pole, hoopla, raffles, children’s tug of war and lots more. If you don’t want the celebrations to end you can round off your evening watching a band playing in the popular Pigs Nose Inn.
The budding wildlife enthusiasts among us can join the rangers at Coleton Fishacre on the 28th May from 2-4pm to learn how to make homes for wild animals. This fun informative session is great for the whole family.
Finish off your half term by dancing the night away at the Kingsbridge Food and Music Festival. This perfect mix of food and music always turns out to be a great weekend. Expect wood fired pizzas, keralan curries, locally reared meat and Devon ales. Whilst enjoying a wide range of music styles including funk, blues and alternative rock. Friday 30th May – Sunday 1st June.
Every evening from Monday 26th May Sea-N-Shore are running scenic harbour cruises from Whitestrand in Salcombe. Spend the evening cruising down the estuary to The Crabshell Inn in Kingsbridge, place your drink and food order on board and it will be ready for your arrival at your destination! This is a perfect evening for families or friend groups looking to spend some time on the water and watch the sunset whilst dining alfresco. £15 per person, departure times vary, dinner not included.
Head down to the Brixham Sailing Regatta on Friday 23rd May and Saturday 24th May, this event is organised by local volunteers for everyone to enjoy. All age groups can get involved and have some fun, watch the Heritage Sailing Trawler rally and races, tuck into some delicious snacks from the food stalls and cooking demonstrations, or buy your own fresh local sea food to take home. The festival ends with live music and Fireworks on Saturday night.
