In South Devon we very lucky to have lots of local produce in our shops but we also have a great range of fantastic Farmer’s Markets that run every month meaning no matter what time of year or month you are in the local area you can always enjoy the delicious treats on offer. Each year we are also treated to food festivals, read on for more details of the events this year.
Kingsbridge Farmers Market is held on the first and third Saturday of every month and can be found on the quay at the town square between 9.00am and 1.00pm. The Kingsbridge market gives you a good opportunity to gather fresh produce for an evening meal with everything you need on offer including herbs, spices and dairy products. The market also features a wide range of meat, fish and vegetables as well as fantastic sweet and savoury nibbles such as cakes, fudge, breads and olives. The fish comes from our local waters and is always fresh, take home Salcombe crab or Plymouth oysters for a seafood feast. Every year the Kingsbridge Food and Music Festival takes place and sees the love of food and music come together for everyone to enjoy. Local restaurants and producers entice supporters with delicious smells and tastes whilst local bands provide music to keep the party going into the evening. The festival takes place between 30th May and 1st of June in 2014.
On the second Saturday of the month Dartmouth showcases its Farmers Market in The Old Market square from 9.00am to 1.00pm. This display states that it is local produce, for local people from a local source but the merchants are always proud to supply guests to the area with their harvest. Farmers bring along their beef, pork, lamb and poultry to sell to customers as well as homemade sausages and burgers. Why not have a browse round the stalls and enjoy a coffee in one of the local cafés. Dartmouth’s also showcases its impressive food event of the year every October, the Dartmouth Food Festival. This celebration of the art of fine cooking attracts foodies and exhibitors from all over the country. Enjoy cooking demos from celebrity chefs, tasters of gourmet products from the region and leave feeling inspired to get creative in the kitchen! This year the Dartmouth Food Festival will take place between 24th and 26th October 2014 and Coast & Country Cottages will be proudly sponsoring again this year. Bring the whole family along to our stall where we will be running children’s activities to ensure all ages are entertained.
