Orchard Barn

Orchard Barn is lovely and we had a great holiday - plenty of parking and the proximity to Salcombe and the boat park was super.

The lounge and kitchen were very comfortable. However, there were some ongoing issues that need to be addressed: The wifi was down for the whole two weeks and as the mobile signal wasn't great, we struggled to get online for our basic needs. The previous guests had also been without wifi - so this was not really acceptable. The shower curtain in the bathroom is not fit for purpose - every shower was spent trying not to get water on the bathroom floor and it looked as though previous guests had had the same problem, judging by the stains on the lounge ceiling. A hearth rug is needed in front of the open fire - we had to use a beach towel so we could protect the carpet. A log basket would be helpful - there wasn't anywhere to store firewood in the lounge. The rubbish wasn't collected and I had to make a call to ask for the bin to be emptied - and rather annoying when the rubbish info finished with red text stating that if we didn't comply with their rubbish collection instructions charges would apply - which we didn't appreciate.

But ongoing WiFi issues (which no one told us about beforehand ) that meant a week without WiFi and almost nil mobile signal for me which meant serious inconvenience when trying to deal with a family emergency.Water coming through living room ceiling one night after bathing. Support from Sykes absolutely underwhelming and a laughable £50 off a next booking in as ‘token of goodwill’

Lovely cottage set in a pretty and peaceful location.

Loved the garden where we sat most evenings to enjoy the lovely views and making friends with the cheeky Robin. The walk into Salcombe along the banks of the Creek was very enjoyable with plenty to see along the way and also offered good opportunities for bird watching. The cottage was clean and comfortable with a relaxed and homely feel. The kitchen was well equipped and lent itself to being a comfortable living area with immediate access onto the patio garden. The master bedroom was comfortable with a kingsized bed and generous sized quilt with easy access to both bathrooms which was a bonus when getting ready. We had a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday at Orchard Barn. Thank you.

Orchard barn is a really nice and comefortable holiday home in a very nice setting,a genuine 15 to 20 minute walk by the side of Batson creek will take you into the heart of Salcombe My only criticism is that one wet evening .

after cooking a meal and eating in the lovely kitchen diner and moving into the lounge to watch a little tv, we found it was impossible to get any channel or program ecxept BBC I Player ;we do not watch much tv ,but with wet weather it may be a problem for some people .

Fantastic cottage in a great location!

The property is very spacious and comfortable and the garden is great for sitting and enjoying the peace and quiet. The only slight grumble would be the bathrooms - the shower curtain in the main bathroom is horrible and needs replacing immediately. The downstairs toilet had so much stuff stored behind the door that you couldn’t open it properly. However, these are minor gripes and we’d definitely book again.

Great property in fantastic location (Batson Creek) at less than a mile (easy walk) from the town centre.

Orchard Barn , was quite difficult to find.

A sign would have been helpful at top of the lane. It was very comfortable and spacious nicely decorated. Very well equipped and warm. A bit more attention to cleaning needed. Lampshade in bedroom full of insects , oven door and some kitchen cupboard door handles a bit sticky and grubby , but overall lovely and would stay again.

Nice home from home - plenty of space indoors and outdoors - dog friendly and not to far from town (short way up the hill at the end of Batson Creek) - great service as always from the Sykes Salcombe Team

We enjoyed our stay at Orchard Barn pleased to say the enclosed back area was as detailed and enabled us to let our dog out without worrying.

If I was to offer any criticism it would be that a lot of the cupboards were overcrowded and the glasses and cups etc had hairline cracks in them .As there is a hefty damage indemnity this is a concern.But on the flip side the cottage offered everything we could want .

A very comfortable and relaxed place to stay with everything we needed.

I have already recommended it to a friend with a dog.

It's a fantastic location and we had a fabulous 10 days.

Views from the garden were great and we used that space a lot for reading, eating and relaxing. The cottage is so well equipped in some ways but the beds really let it down. The sheets supplied are too small, mattress topper in second bedroom badly stained, this bed is also ridiculously creaky! In the ensuite room the mattress is bigger than the bed base, meaning it lacks appropriate support and structure. We were all looking forward to sleeping in our own beds again. Some basic instructions for the TV and oven/ microwave would be good, an unsorted drawer full of manuals is of limited use as some related to previous appliances. Finally we would have liked a second set of keys to make it easier when not all the party went out.

Orchard Barn is a home from home, it has everything you need.

From reading previous reviews it was as expected, a little tired and run down. Our mattress was too big for the bed, the sheets didn't fit. The carpets are a little worn and grubby but the property allows for animals so it's almost expected. A good deep clean wouldn't go a miss. The layout is great with a lovely kitchen and lounge onto a courtyard area. Walk into Salcombe is about 15 / 20 minutes along the beautiful creek, you need to be semi fit to walk back up the hill ! The lady next door is lovely. Would we stay again, yes.

I had an issue with the shower in the main bathroom and the guy came to fix within an hour.

Brilliant service.

I think the cottage could do with some maintenance and diy as little run down garden needs good weeding and interior could do with up dating also was not not the cleanest when we arrived.

Having said that we had a lovely holiday in Salcombe and would use sykes cottages again.

The good- location and plenty of hot water.

The bad - property dated and grubby. Not sure what the extra COVID cleaning time was used for but it certainly wasn’t cleaning.

We had to change the shower curtain as the one already there was dirty and had seen better days There was a leak above the front door so the step was wet all the time .

Could do with another front door key as only one supplied .

A gorgeous barn in an idilic location .

Pretty little hamlet on the creek and only a 20minute walk to Salcombe. Beautiful surrounding walks. Ideal if you have a dog. If I had one or two criticisms , maybe the garden could do with attending to and why have all the radiators on in May. Would still recommend this as a place to stay .

Well equipped comfortable cottage in a great location. If it could be improved in any way, it would benefit from a little TLC both inside and out.

Lovely cottage and location but needs some work done to the drains and general maintenance for the windows and doors (painting)

I suppose house was as stated, but looking quite tired. Can one be picky about rental accommodation if they have a dog. I think so. - I wouldn't expect to see weeds and fungus growing in the lounge. - The drain in the downstairs toilet stank - There were food stains on the bench seat in the kitchen and ring marks on the worktop. - The whole place needed a good clean!

Great space to have. Lovely views from the bedrooms and kitchen. And very clean with lots of useful cooking kit in the kitchen to make it home from home. The walk to Salcombe is very, very easy, flat and about a mile - maybe bring scooters for younger family members to make the walk whizz by.

Very spacious accomodation. Big kitchen with large table and chairs. Very big lounge Great position for walking and enjoying Batson Creek. Nice garden that is a sun trap. Good parking. We have returned year after year. Ideal location for a super family holiday.

Nice property but not very clean! On arrival first impression was doormat hadnt been hoovered. Case was covered in white animal hair after lying on bedroom floor and cushions on settee were covered in brown cat(??) hairs. Also empty boxes left out in kitchen. Kitchen and bathroom were clean.

Great accommodation. Able to sit on the patio in the morning sun for breakfast & for a drink in the evening sun.

A lovely family weekend break away to celebrate Dave's 80th Birthday.

A pretty location and surroundings. Beds very comfortable. We've walked into Salcombe and driven over to Hope Cove to view the sunset. It really would have been nice to have a welcome pack with a few teabags, coffee sachets and some milk after a four hour journey here but it didn't spoil it. Also please empty your Dyson to make it more pleasant for next visitors, a little off putting. I would still recommend this cottage, it's a little hidden gem.
