Cowslip Cottage

Great property in a lovely setting.

Well appointed and very comfortable. Good location, near Kingsbridge. Garden shared to front and not totally secure at the rear - to note if bringing dogs - but no issue with using a lead.

The cottage was very well equipped and designed.

A few points which I think have been raised before, the fridge door doesn't close very well, coffee table(s) would be a great idea and the steep steps going down to the cottage needs a handrail for safety. There was a strong smell from the outside drain and washing machine which enticed a lot of flies and ants inside the cottage. Otherwise it would be a nice place for people who like quite remote places to go.

A lovely cottage.

Our only negative was the road leading up to the property. It was a very narrow road overgrown in some places with brambles which scratched the cars. We walked down the road breaking and pushing back the thicker branches. It did put us off driving out more than once a day. Otherwise a lovely stay.

Pros - very well equipped kitchen (we cooked dinner three nights with ease), children’s plates and cutlery available, lots of dishwasher and washing machine pods provided, nice location (anyone coming to the South Hams should be confident to reverse on country lanes etc), plenty of space for us all, friendly neighbours, easy parking and enough seating for us all inside.

Plenty of towels provided and shower water pressure was great alongside plenty of hot water. Cons (passed on to owners so will hopefully be resolved) - pillows were really dirty and several had no pillow protectors on, the first floor is constantly hot from the boiler running and the duvets are 10 tog, I’m sure it’s very cosy in winter but not ideal for summer. Dishwasher needed maintenance, one light was out in the lounge, no BBQ, grey water smell outside was awful, farm smells are fine but the grey water smell woke me up at night with the windows open. No coffee table or side tables in the lounge, this has been previously suggested and would have been helpful. Beds were a tad too soft for my liking but I believe that’s personal preference.

Local facilities are none but Kingsbridge is nice for a mooch round and only 5 miles up the road.

Quiet location via single track drive, good parking. Ideal location for exploring the south coast and towns.

The accommodation was superb!

We were staying with family for Christmas and it was incredibly well equipped. Every utensil and pan was provided to cook a full Christmas lunch. Washing and Dishwasher tablets were also provided along with pods for the Nespresso coffee machine. The cottage is well heated and also has a great log burner. The location was also perfect - wonderfully rural but 10mins from all the shops you need in Kingsbridge. The whole place was also absolutely spotless and all the cleaning bits you needed were provided to keep the place clean whilst there. Only one little tip for the owners - a curtain across the bi-fold doors would add to the coziness.

Really pleased with our stay at this beautiful cottage off the beaten track :) Clean, spacious, well equipped and surrounded by beautiful countryside; we had a wet couple of days and didn't feel at all bad staying in!

Bathrooms felt like a spa, kitchen was a delight to cook in (helped by underfloor heating!), and bedrooms were really cosy. Thank you for having us. Best wishes, From the Alis :)

We had the loveliest week here at the beginning of September, it's a great location to explore a lot of Devon without needing to be in a town.

We took our toddler and new baby, and the house was a great safe space for them too. Well equipped with everything you might need in the kitchen (we've now had to buy ourselves a coffee machine as we loved this one, and new mattress toppers as these beds were so comfy!) and we appreciated the warm cosy homeliness of the house.

Another beautiful Sykes cottage .

It has everything you need for a perfect holiday . In particular the top floor en-suite bedroom was lovely , and massive . Like a private suite really . If I’m being critical I feel that it should be pointed out in the details how steep the steps down to the cottage are . Obviously I knew there was lots of stairs , as the cottage is spread over 3 floors , but having arthritic knees and fibromyalgia I did struggle a bit with the steps leading down to the cottage . They are not for the feint hearted . Otherwise everything else about the cottage and the staff who work at the letting agents was great. We had a temporary problem when we thought we had lost the key . As it turned out it had somehow slid under a mat under the seat in the car , but in the interim everyone we spoke to was extremely helpful and provided us with a temporary key replacement . We couldn’t fault the service all round .

A very beautiful cottage in a very quiet and lush green area; you're woken up every morning by birdsong.

The beds are very comfortable, and everything is clean and tidy. We didn't miss a thing. Devon is a superbly beautiful county with lots of greenery, great beaches, and very clean water. Kingsbridge is a great place for shopping; the farm shop with a butcher is along the route and is highly recommended. We're in love. Our special thanks to Tim, who does a great job.

Good location to explore surrounding areas and immaculate- often dog friendly cottages are not so well kept and that is disappointing but, Cowslip Cottage was perfect! Highly recommended with or without your furry friend! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Beautiful cottage.

Kitchen really well equipped. Only 2 small criticisms really. The garden wasn't fully enclosed so our dog kept going through to next door's garden. He is a fairly small dog but it was easy for him to get over the wall. Also a coffee table would be nice in the living room area. Other than that we had a lovely stay. Unfortunately we had to cut it short after 5 days due to a family emergency back home.

A lovely little cottage.

Perfect for what we needed... loved the quirky mice in the kitchen. Found everything we needed for cooking. Bedrooms were ideal for us. Top floor was amazing!

only downfall we felt was the steps leading down to the cottage, was not suitable for elderly (handrail would be good). Also it was advertised for dogs, we felt the garden was not fully secure or enclosed.

This is our 4th visit to this cottage,we never want to leave and we always look forward to coming back each year.

The cottage is in a great position for walking along the coast,a day on the beach,popping into a local town or just relax in the quite surroundings of the cottage.The cottage has everything you need.Beds are very comfortable and the bath in the ensuite I want to take home with me! A fabulous holiday cottage.

A lovely well equipped, clean and well located property.

The only issue we had was someone had set the timer on the television to come on at various times throughout the day. We tried unsuccessfully to turn it off - just conscious it is a waste of energy. We had a lovely stay. Thank you.

We enjoyed our stay very much.

We have already been to this cottage 2 years ago. We only had 1 small issue which was the heating. It was quite cold on a few days (April 2024). The central heating covers the top 2 floors. The ground floor has a wood burner but no central heating. Last time we came it was May and quite a lot warmer. We did not want to go through the effort of managing a fire and the wood burner, so to keep warm We borrowed a duvet from one of the beds we had not been using. Not a big issue and i'm sure most people wouldn't mind using the log fire. Cowslip is very spacious, very comfortable, especially the beds and the location is a perfection of peace, really wonderful and relaxing. Really well presented and maintained. The wifi is excellent also. Thanks for our stay.

We had a fantastic time at Cowslip Cottage. The whole party agreed the accommodation was of a very high standard and we loved the underfloor heating especially at this time of the year !!! A great base to explore the area and would have no hesitation on returning next year, couldn't fault anything. Thank you ..

Great place - everything we needed.

The cottage is lovely and is finished to a high standard the only thing for us it would been nice to have had a couple of small coffee tables

Overall a lovely cottage just a bit more rural than we expected.

The number of steps both inside and out should be quoted ( 26 inside and 17 outside). The mattress in the main bedroom was tired and uncomfortable. The lounge lacks curtains to the patio doors and windows. Unfortunately a hornets nest in the next door property meant all windows should be kept closed when lights on indoors. We had to rid ourselves of 9 hornets the first night as we were unaware of the problem which we reported to Sykes who said they would take it up with the owners. Overall a nice property with a few problems we encountered.

Lovely spacious property.

Good sized bedrooms. Top floor master with en-suite, tv and sofa was excellent. Internet was good. As was the kitchen facilities. Sheets and towels all beautifully clean. Keep up the good work and thanks for a fab stay.

The only problem I had was locating the key lock box which was lost in overgrown shrubs!

Once found it was very difficult to focus on the wheeled combination due to the plants obstruction and dim light. As we were departing early on our last morning I gave up trying to open the box so left the key on top of the box. Otherwise a very comfortable and well provided for holiday cottage.

Sofa is a little uncomfortable and chairs to the front of property are a bit rickety.

The Cottage was very good in an excellent location.

It was very clean and comfortable and well presented. There are a number of steep steps down to the entrance level which should be made safer for older guests by installing a hand rail. Similarly the showers would be safer if non-slip shower mats were provided for those who need them. The furnishings were good although surprisingly there was no coffee table in front of the sofa. It would improve the seating area if one was provided.

We left some comments in the Guest book which included: The need for blinds/curtains for the patio doors.

A coffee table or side tables in the lounge area. A dressing table in the double room. We found the fridge door does not close properly and the integrated freezer needs defrosting - it was completely iced up. The oven needs a thorough clean. All that said, we found the the cottage otherwise clean, warm and comfortable. It is well stocked and ideally situated. Would I come back? Of course!

The cottage was perfect.

The only complaint would be the state of the mattress in the master bedroom.Visitors are requested to strip the bed at the end of their stay,and it at this point the stains on the mattress were revealed.Not the end of the world,but it did take the edge off what would have been the perfect vacation

Nothing to do with the property ,we felt let down by the lack of understanding from Sykes cottages with the our situation ,we was completely honest ,if you want to contact me and get the full details i will tell you and give you and your insurers some sound advice about being compassionate to regular customers ,if i do not get a human response from you i will carry on and advise any of my friends and relatives not to use Sykes cottages .

Beautiful location and lovely house.

We had a really lovely stay and would like to go back sometime.

The cottage was very well appointed and the kitchen well equipped. My only criticism was on recycling which was not clear, and there were no curtains for the sliding doors which made it feel a bit cold in the winter. Otherwise, everything was perfectly lovely. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Fabulous cottage!

Really peaceful location but very near to the coast. Very well equipped and immaculately clean. We stay in lots of cottages and this one rates as one of the best ever! Would highly recommend to anyone. Dog friendly as well!!

We loved the cottage!

It was perfect for all 4 of us, there was so many of the little things provided that made it just perfect! The cot and the coffee machine were just what I needed! It’s in a great location off the beaten track yet accessible to all the great location along the coast.

We like this cottage very much - well equipped, comfortable and very convenient for lots of lovely places.

We had a minor problem, but it was dealt with very quickly and efficiently - most impressed!

The only thing I would suggest to the owner is there was no mattress protecor on one of the beds used and one or two of the pillows also.

For hygiene reasons this is very important especially in today's post covid concerns.

Cowslip cottage is one of a group of converted farm buildings, making high quality holiday let's.

The site grounds are very picturesque, beautifully kept in a very private, quiet setting with Ample parking. Owners very welcoming. Cowslip sleeps 6, bedrooms on floors 2 & 3, with enormous bed, tv and ensuite on top floor. Bed extremely comfortable. Ground floor has living room, diner, kitchen. Comfortable, well equipped, all appliances, excellent WiFi. Highly recommended. The area is outstandingly pretty. Well worth visit Dartmouth, ferry's and boat trips and beyond to Kingswear, Torquay, Paignton, Brixham. Had a fabulous relaxing week, perfect for a recharge.

Really lovely place to stay!

Everything we needed, beautiful location, loved hearing the birds in the morning.

We really enjoyed our stay at Cowslip Cottage and would definitely come back again.

The listing was accurate. Bedrooms were comfortable, and the master bedroom was particularly spacious. The cottage was well equipped, with the small exception of a metal roasting tin which the housekeeper very kindly provided. There were a couple of things - the extractor fan in the kitchen was not working, so the smoke alarm kept going off. The shaving light in the master bedroom did not work and it was a bit dark in the bathroom without it. We mentioned both to the housekeeper who said that some refurbishment was taking place shortly so hopefully they get repaired. Also the wall lights in the lounge did not work. This did not detract from our stay - the house was comfortable and we would recommend it to others

Lovely, cosy cottage.

Lovely surprise to find it had been decorated for Christmas! Definitely recommend taking a torch in winter months; the lanes are very dark and uneven. Would recommend this cottage for a quiet getaway.

Lovely location and cottage.

Just one thing the key safe was difficult to acces because of the growth of foliage, but other than that we had a lovely break.

Lovely property, everything you need and very clean, Good location in surrounding countryside, Nice walks, and local pub and coffee shop nearby.

Plenty of places to visit and only a short distance, a must visit is start lighthouse, fabulous scenery,

Lovely beaches around. The lanes sat nav tells you to follow are not for the feint hearted ! Much easier journey to follow A roads to Kingsbridge.

Cowslip Cottage was absolutely perfect!

I’ve never been in such a well-equipped holiday rental, and it felt genuinely cosy with its wood-burning stove, really comfortable beds and homey touches likes the little mice (decorative, not real!) in the kitchen walls. Brilliant location for trips to Salcombe, Brixham, Bantham and Hope Cove. Lovely bakery a short walk away (pain au chocolat and pasties v much recommended). Fab pond with tadpoles was popular with the kids!

a delightful place to stay, we arrived in shocking weather just before Christmas and as we pulled up outside we could see the Christmas tree through the window with the lights on ready and waiting we would definitely be happy to return to Cowslip cottage and will also use Sykes cottages next time we are looking for somewhere

For instance there is no bottlebank as suggested in Frogmore.

Wonderful cottage

We loved the quiet surroundings, yet we were within a short drive to good facilities.

There were quite a lot of steps leading down to the cottage, the nearest toilet is on the first floor and the rooms are over three levels. Having said that, we did expect that when booking and it didn’t spoil our time spent in the welcoming cottage. We had a lovely time!

Only remark is that TV could be upgraded as very basic and on a couple of occasions we couldn't get all the channels.

Otherwise the kitchen is well equipped and we found the accommodation very comfortable and the location beautiful as well as peaceful.

We enjoyed our holiday at Cowslip Cottage.

However correction of small points would have made it even better. There are no locks on the bathroom or toilet doors which could have been embarrassing. Some of the doors need attention as they do not fit well. Whilst we were there we had an electrical failure of one section for no apparent reason. It took some time to discover the location of the fuse box and reset the circuit breaker. (One of our party is a competant electrician). The only other comment is that the lounge furniture is very bulky and can only comfortably seat five not six. Although we had a good holiday we would not want to return to Cowslip Cottage as we would look for somewhere a bit more spacious. Thank you and best wishes.

The cottage was well equipped and beautifully presented, a home from home.

The top bedroom provided me a perfect sanctuary for some much needed rest and relaxation. The area is beautiful and the people we met friendly. I have to thank the owner and Sykes Cottages for the very swift resolution of the tap issue.

Cottage was of very high standard throughout and very well equipped.

Even birthday candles which we used twice in our weeks stay! Only slight problem was steps down to cottage which my elderly father found tricky. Otherwise would definitely book again.

Beautifully presented in a stunning and peaceful location. The cottage was very well equipped. Only puzzling thing was the Sky boxes inability to get a signal for BBC1?

A little dark on ground floor, rest of floors fine and facilities excellent. A little more cosy would be welcome especially if you are staying in the colder weather.

Cowslip cottage was very comfortable. Exstremly well equipped everything we could wish for. The beds were out of this world we all slept like logs. The location was excellent ideal to explore the South Hams.
