Situated in the heart of South Pool, fairy lights guide you to this multi-award-winning pub. It’s almost impossible not to feel festive when you step into this snug, traditional gastro-pub. Open the door and the scent of Christmas day lunch, the sound of the crackling log fire and the sight of loved ones gathering together ignites your festive senses. There aren’t many places quite as characterful as The Millbrook and we couldn’t think of a better time to visit than the Christmas season.
There are Christmas Day and Boxing Day options for Christmas lunch. The enticing menu boasts succulent roast turkey topped with stuffing, packed with flavour and so much more, as well an excellent vegetarian alternative boasting amazing seasonal veggies.
The twinkling lights, the welcoming community, the decorated fishing vessels bobbing on the water, the smell of mulled wine and the roaring sound of the wood burner – Salcombe is a magical winter wonderland.

The Village Inn is a cosy, spacious gastro-pub that’s great for large groups. With a modern roaring fireplace in the lounge, variety of local tipples to choose from at the feature bar and rustic beams from wrecked Spanish Armada ships throughout, this dog-friendly eatery is full of character and charm. Their set Christmas menu has got our bellies rumbling, so much so, we just had to share it with you. Enjoy a drink on arrival, followed by five indulgent courses and Christmas stolen with your tea or coffee to finish. Once you’ve tried all that’s on the menu, why not walk to Thurlestone Beach? A blustery beach walk is the perfect way to refresh after a festive feast.
Listed as one of our favourite restaurants in Brixham, The Old Market House is a fantastic place to eat in this idyllic coastal town. Situated on the waterfront of Brixham’s bustling fishing port, you can enjoy your Christmas Day lunch with a breathtaking harbour view. From the festive favourite roast Turkey to a lighter roasted hake loin, there is plenty of choice for all of your party. Goveton, near Kingsbridge
Buckland Tout-Saints is a luxury country house hotel surrounded by 4.5 acres of gardens and woodland. The traditional interior is decorated exquisitely with festive ornaments and fairy lights, providing the perfect setting for a magical festive meal. For £99pp (children under 12 half price) you can cheers with a glass of champagne, pop open your Christmas cracker, and with your paper hat firmly on, indulge in a delicious five course gourmet lunch as you share your cracker jokes, all followed by a Christmas present each. Although not open on Christmas Day itself, we couldn’t help but recommend one of our favourite restaurants in South Devon, Rockfish. Why not warm up to the big day by heading to Rockfish on Christmas Eve (open until 3pm) for a festive seafood feast? Although a roast dinner topped with lashings of stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy may never get old, sometimes you can’t beat seafood, because why not when you’re holidaying in South Devon, famous for some of the best, mouth-watering fresh fish in the country? The relaxed and friendly atmosphere, topped with recycled Christmas decorations and colouring in kids activities allows you to celebrate without a care in the world. After all, you can never have enough fluffy battered fish and chips, it’s a British classic! Explore their delicious food options here (menu available completely gluten free).
Open over the Christmas period, but only open for drinks on the 25th December, we still had to include The Ship Inn at Noss Mayo. This chocolate box village is one of South Devon’s most wonderful hidden gems. Walk, or drive through quaint winding roads with views over the River Yealm before you reach this thriving waterside pub. Or, why not explore the water and paddleboard to the pub?
