With scrumptious traditional cakes, delectable savoury treats and fluffy, freshly baked scones topped with lashings of clotted cream and fruit jam available, South Devon is a wonderful place to enjoy an afternoon tea; the ultimate foodie experience!

Why not enjoy your own perfect afternoon tea in the comfort of your Coast & Country Cottages holiday home? Here are details of some fantastic food and drink producers who can help you create a delicious spread – we even sampled them ourselves, with an afternoon feast at The Lobster Pot in Beesands!

No afternoon tea is complete without the debate over which comes first, jam or cream. In South Devon we are spoilt for establishments that have perfected the fluffy scone, with ample wonderful bakeries nearby. We ordered our scones, a trio of cakes, plus mouth-watering mini tarts from The Bake House in Salcombe. During the summer months The Bake House is popular with visitors and locals alike, so pre order to avoid disappointment!

Mill Valley Bakery in South Milton

Add a little something extra to your afternoon tea, by purchasing cakes that turn the traditional into a work of art. Made by Mill Valley Bakery in South Milton, these stunning mini Victoria Sandwiches are an eye-catching addition.

Dart to Mouth Deli, Dartmouth

Whilst an afternoon tea is heavenly for those with a sweet tooth, there are also a number of delis and farm shops in the area which provide savoury snacks to compliment your spread. These impressive scotch eggs and pork pies came from Dart to Mouth Deli in Dartmouth.

If it wasn’t for the breathtaking sea views, we could almost have forgotten we were in South Devon, thanks to hand-crafted French patisseries and macaroons from Saveurs in Dartmouth. These irresistible creations added another dimension of elegance to our afternoon feast.

For those celebrating a special occasion, or simply looking to unwind and indulge whilst on holiday, add a little fizz to your table. We recommend Sparkling Blanc from local wine makers Sharpham Wine and Cheese, but to find the perfect wine for you, visit their local vineyard for samples of wine and cheese.

Alternatively, enjoy a tasty range of Luscombe Drinks, available in a number of local stores and farm shops.

Helping our table setting to look simply exquisite, local lifestyle company Relish provided stylish cushions. Offering bespoke furniture and lifestyle accessories, Relish can help with every aspect of interior design.

Bring some colour to your table setting by ordering a breathtaking bouquet of wild flowers from Blackawton Blooms, grown in Blackawton, near Dartmouth.

The Lobster Pot, Beesands
The Lobster Pot provided the perfect location for our afternoon tea. With stunning, uninterrupted views out to sea from most of the living accommodation, terrace and balcony, this is a fabulous seaside property for up to 8 people. Bringing a dog? The property even has a designated ‘dog shower’ in the utility room, to wash off sandy paws after a day exploring the South West Coast Path! Enjoy a morning at Beesands beach, before walking the few steps back and devouring an afternoon tea feast in the comfort of this VisitEngland Five Star awarded holiday home.
