With Mother’s Day a few weeks away, we’ve put together some ideas for how you can treat your Mum to the day she deserves.

There are plenty of things to do in South Devon every day of the year, so we’re concentrating on just a few of the attractions that are offering something special for the Mother’s Day weekend and surrounding weeks.

1.Mother’s Day lunch

February half-term - Overbecks

Treat your mum (and while you’re there, why not treat yourself?) to a delicious lunch at Overbeck’s House in Salcombe. Enjoy a king prawn and local Salcombe crab salad, topped with fragrant fennel, served with garlic mayonnaise and locally baked bread.

Explore this stunning National Trust owned house and garden, revelling in its wonderful estuary views, before or after a relaxed lunch in the café.

Lunch is on Sunday 31st of March, from 12:00 until 16:00. Booking in advance is essential – call on 01548 842893. Normal admission fees apply.

2. Dart Marina afternoon tea

Make your Mum feel extra special and take her for an afternoon tea at Dart Marina. Light as a feather scones with luscious Devon clotted cream are just the cherry on the cake. There are delicate finger sandwiches, tiny pots of savoury deliciousness, exquisite home-made pastries truly worthy of a cake fork and macaroons that mesmerise. Every leaf tea has been chosen with immense care and the menu is exceptional; there’s even a fabulous Hendricks Tea which, enjoyed outside by the River in the sunshine, is a real G & T moment!

To book a table please call 01803 832580.

3. A Mother’s Day massage and more

Treat your Mum to a day of indulgence with a Spa Day at the Voyage Spa, Thurlestone. For £65 per person this includes:

  • a 40-minute treatment
  • unlimited use of the Voyage Spa facilities
  • a two course lunch in the Terrace Bar

This promotion will run from Monday to Saturday from 1st – 31st March, so there’s plenty of time to find a convenient moment (or even spring a nice surprise), for you and your Mum.

For a quicker option to fit in with any other plans you might have, their treatment vouchers make the perfect Mother’s Day gift.

To book or for further information please call 01548 560382 or email enquiries@thurlestone.co.uk.

4. A stroll and a meal at Dartington Hall

Dartington Hall

Spend Mother’s Day ambling through the beautiful Dartington Hall estate, with its striking South Hams scenery, sculpted gardens and stunning courtyard. Learn about the intriguing history of this magical place and don’t forget to look out for the 1947 Henry Moore sculpture, ‘Memorial Figure’ on the far side of the famous tiltyard.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, take your Mum to the White Hart restaurant, just off the central courtyard, where you can enjoy a special Mothering Sunday lunch. The White Hart, which holds a Taste of the West Bronze Award, puts a strong emphasis on locally-sourced food.

Prices for lunch start at £14.00 per person, from 12:00 until 15:00. Booking in advance is essential – call on 01803 847111, or email reservations@dartingtonhall.com.
After lunch, take a walk to the Shops at Dartington, where you can pick up an interesting range of items from local ales to kitchenware to ornaments, and stop for a coffee in the cafe.

5. A tasty treat at Pennywell Farm

February half-term - Pennywell

Animal-loving Mums will love a day out at Pennywell Farm, South Devon’s most adorable animal attraction. From miniature pigs to mighty shire horses, there are a host of cuddly critters and beautiful beasts to meet, including lots that you can pick up or pet.

All Mothers visiting the farm on Mother’s Day will be treated to a delicious Devon cream tea, courtesy of Pennywell.
