The aim of the annual Kingsbridge Food and Music Festival is simple, and summed up best by the organisers themselves. Their goal is to “throw a party for the people of Kingsbridge, and visitors to our beautiful town, to celebrate the eclectic mix of incredible tastes and sounds that originate from the area.”
Its packed programme of live entertainment and wide variety of local food exhibitors provide you with the perfect excuse to saunter down to South Devon for a lively holiday.
Gastronomists will be in their element with the selection of 21 of the regions best loved foodie brands supporting the festival. It’s a chance to sample the finest South Devon has to offer.
Diverse and tasty offerings range from fragrant Thai and aromatic Indian, to succulent street food, heavenly crepes and delectable wood-fired pizzas. With all food of unsurpassed quality and flavour, the difficulty is going to be which of the dishes to choose!
• Street food that’s as local as it gets! Feast on dishes from The Rusty Pig, who are all about local – sourcing, flavours and people.
• Celebrate global cuisine with a South Devon twist – look out for the spicy delights of Kerala Delicacies and the South Devon Chilli Farm amongst others.
• Finger licking savouries and sticky sweet pastries line the stalls from Te Me and Sticky fingers – all a must to enjoy.
• If singing along to the epic tunes leaves you parched, there are truly tasty tipples from local breweries, vineyards and more. Heron Valley Cider and Juices, Sharpham Wine, Salcombe Brewery and Owens Coffee will all be on hand to quench your thirst.
Tantalise your taste buds even further by venturing along the bustling Kingsbridge Fore Street and explore the superb selection of various of cafés, independent coffee shops and bakeries.
A wide array of local talent is sure to have you up and dancing off your food indulgence. Head down to the bandstand at Squares Quay to enjoy the show. Here is a sneak peak of some of the headlining acts for the festival.
Pattern Pusher strive to achieve immersive music that breaks the boundaries between sight and sound. Electrifying visuals combined with dynamic song writing and attention-grabbing on stage energy, no one would guess the trio originated in little old Devon.
Black Water Country bring a high octane performance through a fusion of folk instruments, punk energy and catchy pop melodies. Their energetic live shows, which feature the dual lead vocals of Tim and Shan, are a thing of local legend and awe in their home county of Dorset, usually ending up with band members scattered throughout a frenzied crowd or a shoulder-mounted fiddle solo, to name but a couple of eventualities.
Funke and the Two Tone Baby is a one-man sonic explosion. Uncategorised and uncharted, jammed halfway between frenzied alt-blues and metronomic dance beats. Combining guitar and harmonica with beatboxing and effects that seamlessly collide the organic with the mechanical to create a fresh sound of unstoppable rhythm and unrelenting melody.
Their music described as “just the kind of sonic elixir we need in these troubled times”, Nobel Jacks are out to take no prisoners with their high-energy footstompin’ rhythms, which have taken crowds by storm across the UK.
Noble Jacks have been touring relentlessly. With sold out shows across the UK on their two headline tours in 2018, with shows at major festivals including Glastonbury, Isle of Wight and Bestival, as well as major European festivals – they are not to be missed!
For younger festival-goers, you’ll find the grassy Kids Zone behind the stage. Here you’ll find a range of activities and taster sessions to enjoy.
This year, the Kids Zone will visited by Pom Stitch Tassel who will be offering mask and head-dress making sessions at a small fee. Members of the Tesco Kingsbridge Farm to Fork team will also be on site offering the chance to make yummy fruit kebabs, while you can also expect bouncy castle fun, face painting and more!
Following last year’s success, the Children’s Disco will be back on Saturday morning, with music from local favourite, Crunchy Carrot. Fancy dress is optional (but always fun) and there will be some competitions and prizes to be won.
