During the school summer holidays, lots of our biggest and best attractions put on special events to entertain kids and adults alike, while nothing beats a day at the beach on a sunny day.
Here are six of our favourite family attractions and activities that you can enjoy in South Devon in summer 2018.

The folks at Pennywell Farm have promised an ‘action, animal and activity packed summer’ in 2018. Pennywell is a much-loved local attraction, especially for small families, due to its array of cuddly creatures, friendly atmosphere and manageable size, ideal for youngsters.

Park for free at Buckfastleigh station, where you’ll find a gift shop, café and railway museum, as well as Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies. From there, take the steam train on a picturesque journey to Totnes (hopping off at the pretty riverside village of Staverton if you like). By the nostalgic Totnes Littlehempston station, you’ll find Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, a little petting zoo with a famous collection of rare owls as well as lots of cuddly, pet-able critters.

At Wigford Cross on the edge of Loddiswell (TQ7 4DX), the South Devon Chilli Farm is a top foodie brand and local attraction, with a show tunnel, kids’ play area, café and excellent gift shop.
Visiting outside of summer? You’ll be happy to know the South Devon Chilli Farm is open seven days a week throughout the year, from 10 am to 4.30 pm, except for the Christmas holidays. You can also get hold of your favourite chilli products by ordering online.
The beaches may be open all year round, but it’s during the summer that the sea warms up nicely, many of our beachside cafés extend their opening hours, and watersports equipment and lessons become most widely available.
No matter how you want to enjoy the beach, you’ll find you’re spoilt for choice in South Devon.
