Quintessentially English, the riverside hamlet of Tuckenhay is one of South Devon’s best kept secrets, and if you want to become privy to it’s magic then we urge you to visit. Boasting a rich industrial past with a history in papermaking, the scene nowadays is somewhat different – rolling countryside leads down to chocolate box properties that line the water’s edge, enjoying rambling rose clad gardens, private moorings and panoramic river views. The river itself acts as a thriving wildlife corridor, and is regularly frequented by kingfishers and herons, not forgetting the local seal. Albeit tide dependant, it also enjoys a gentle flow of traffic consisting of yachts, canoes, paddleboarders, and the occasional wild swimmer. The village plays host to several walking routes, and also two popular watering holes, perfect for those in search of something more relaxed! There is a calm atmosphere in Tuckenhay and a true sense of solitude, making it the perfect escape if you want to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life behind you.
