“The Gallery does not live up to its billing.”
When we arrived there was no hot water or central heating. The owner, who was very willing to help, had to come twice with a long ladder and climb into the roof to clear an air block which, he said, occurred from time to time, and which should obviously be checked routinely before all new occupants arrive.
On top of this the Gallery is inadequately furnished - it is not somewhere you look forward to relaxing in at the end of the day:-
NEITHER BATHROOM HAS A TOILET ROLL HOLDER (the roll sits on the floor), or a glass for water or brushing teeth.
Bedrooms - there is nowhere to put suitcases or clothes other than in a cupboard, which in the l/h room is also too small. There was no chair in the l/h bedroom until we complained and were given one (for two people). The r/h bedroom had just one chair. Neither has anywhere to place suitcases.
In the living area there are no surfaces to put anything on apart from one coffee table, and the only only seating is two two-seat sofas. It needs a couple of rugs and more than one reading light.
The dining chairs have no cushions, and very uncomfortable backs.
Neither shower has a grab rail, making them dangerous for older people
The Gallery is also poorly maintained:-
The l/h bedroom door didn’t close on the latch and banged in the night
One l/h bathroom bulb was burnt out, and toilet flush had to be temporarily adjusted by the owner (another visit) to stop it running continuously.
The r/h bathroom shower lever was too stiff to move with one hand
In the kitchen: the oven door gasket needs replacing; two overhead crockery cupboard doors fell down when opened to use, requiring to be held up by one hand to get at the crockery with the other; in the right hand main cupboard one door has a broken hinge, the other doesn’t fit shut
The torch in the living area doesn’t work (doesn’t recharge)

Airlocks have occurred only extremely rarely in the past ten years during which the Gallery has been a popular holiday destination. Unfortunately, this issue happened during your stay, but it was resolved promptly as soon as you contacted us.
Toilet roll holders have been provided and an ample supply of glasses are available and can easily be placed in the bathrooms should guests prefer.
The rooms and furnishings are accurately represented in the photographs provided. The Gallery accommodates up to four guests and includes sofa seating for four people. We are always happy to provide additional chairs or other items upon request, if asked to do so.
We appreciate that comfort preferences can vary, however, previous guests have not raised concerns regarding the chairs, which we also use in our own home.
A plumber attended at the earliest opportunity to adjust the shower control and repair the toilet flush.
