“The house and location are great and we had a very nice time there but the house needs some maintenance, pretty much what has been in previous reviews still needs doing.”

The photos need updating, the house accommodates 6 but there are only 5 chairs for the dining table and the padding has gone making them uncomfortable, the patio table has 6 chairs, 2 are broken. The patio needs weeding and bind weed is engulfing the bbq and railings, grass wasn't cut in the 2 weeks we where there but not a problem due to hot weather as it didn't get much longer There are lots of cobwebs and it needs dusting/cleaning. One bed in the top bedroom has a large dip in the mattress ...

The rug in the entrance was badly curled up (tripping hazard) on the end and we had to turn it so it was under the bench, if you tripped on it you were in line with the stairs going down. lower bedroom door would not shut, en suite door wouldn't stay shut 2 doors difficult to lock, kitchen window hard to close, garden gate catch bent making it awkward to close some skirting is rotten Don't read this and think its not a good place to stay, we had a great time, sitting on the balcony watching the boats go by, evenings in the garden (its changed since photos taken) aren't spoilt by that rotten skirting or uncomfortable dinning chair all these things are easy fixes, and I would go back again because of the location and view, but for the money it costs to stay here some should be spent on the house. Regarding the steps, there are 2 flights of steps to the front door, second set are steeper, but once in you can use the lower door and come out through the garden gate half way below the upper steps, why not just give guests the key to lower door and put a path over side lawn ?, there are still some steps up that way but far easier/safer. we parked a fiat 500 and dacia sandero with room left, just for size reference on parking

“Our first impression was rather disappointing as the parking area was scruffy and needed weeding.”

As we entered the garden we were shocked to see the grass was quite long. However this was cut later on in the week. We have stayed here before and noticed the garden had had some improvements, with new garden furniture and sleepers. The plants were in full bloom and looked beautiful. Unfortunately the upper patio looked scruffy and needed weeding. A broken chair that needs removing. On entering the property we were pleased with the cleanliness. The sofas had new covers, there are new glass balustrades on the balconies . Although I did have to sweep it so we wouldn't walk dirt into the living room. We only used the downstairs double with ensuite.The mattress was comfy and the bedding was good quality. However when we stripped the bed when leaving ( as requested) we noticed it didn't have a mattress protector. If I had noticed earlier I would have reported it to the office. There was a faulty table lamp in the living room which I reported. I also reported that the car park and patio needed tidying. The house itself is lovely with absolutely fabulous views. It's well equipped too. I wouldn't recommend to less able guests as there are steep steps from the parking area and more up to the house. There are 3 floors, so more steps. The living room is on the second floor so benefits for the views. The bathroom would also be difficult for less abled guests as the shower is over the very deep bath with no grab handles. I would love to give Moonrakers 5 stars but it just needs a little TLC.

“A lovely house with great views in a fabulous location.”

The parking space is a real bonus but is tight for large vehicles. The property is beginning to look a bit tired, quite a few cracks, the outside furniture is pretty poor, the showers didn't work particularly well, all things that can be easily remedied and did not take away from our enjoyment of the property. The garden was great for our little Jack Russel, it is incredibly secure and surprisingly large. It has been said before but just to reiterate, access to the property would be challenging if you have any form of mobility limitations.

“Lovely property in a very good location , nice bright and roomy.”

Close to the main shops and river. All with in easy walking distance. Quite a few steps and stairs up to and in the property so best that in mind. Off road parking for one car a medium suv but a larger 4x4 may struggle

“The parking and steep stairs to the house were a bit of a shock for our two less able bodied family members.”

Once we were inside, the view and aspect was lovely and the house had everything we needed. However, the two single beds were saggy and uncomfortable, the detachable shower fittings were inadequate in both bathrooms and the path was treacherous when it was wet. Other than these few issues, we had a fantastic stay at Moonrakers in Dartmouth.

The large enclosed garden is fabulous for our dog & we love the location. Close to the M&S food store, restaurants, shops & lovely walks. There were 4 adults & 2 children on our holiday & the lay out of the bedrooms & bathrooms are excellent. Lovely patio areas & fantastic views. We have already made our booking for next year.

“The property was excellent.”

Very comfortable, well equipped and clean on arrival. The location and the views are lovely and only 5 minutes walk to the centre of town. We thought that the steps to access the property could do with some tidying and maybe paint the treads so they are more visible in the dark. Unfortunately the out of hours key collection was a shambles and our keys were not available when we arrived, which caused some distress. We appreciate this is nothing to do with the property owner.

“A really comfortable house in an excellent location.”

Well-equipped and more like a home than a holiday house. Good quality bed linen and towels. Well-equipped kitchen. My only comment would be the carpets need a good clean and the white sofa cover definitely needs to go in the wash! Thank you for a lovely stay.

“Lovely cottage up some very steep stairs which was clean and had the comfiest beds.”

The toilet cistern was constantly running so we reported it. The plumber arrived within the hour and offered to isolate as it was a known problem it but we did not want to be left short of a toilet with 6 of us so my husband fixed it. The gate to the garden’s lock was also broken so just needed a little lov. Great views over Dartmouth and conveniently placed

Steps were a challenge but good at keeping us fit. Lovely comfy beds and great facilities. Nice welcome pack of a few essentials and there were tea towels and oven gloves - everything you need really. We could imagine us living there… missing it already!

“We loved Moonrakers Cottage and will definitely stay again if we visit Dartmouth in the future.”

Great location, amazing views, well equipped cottage with great facilities. It was a huge positive having our own car parking at the property, however we could only get our car (Volvo XC60) partially into the open garage but it was enough so that next door could get in and out of their garage/drive. People with very large cars would struggle. The location of the property is also a big plus with lots of amenities within a short 'flat' 5 minute walk. However, the steps and path from the garage to the cottage would not be suitable for anyone with a mobility problem or bad knees/hips. We are all relatively fit and active but still found the steps and path a challenge after a busy day walking coastal paths. Dartmouth is not for the faint hearted. The scores given above reflect a few minor issues which we reported to the office but none of these issues would stop us staying here again or from us recommending to others as they are all minor safety and maintenance issues: 1. The wooden porch beside the garage was in a bad start of repair when we arrived. Wood rotten causing the door to come off some of the hinges and the doorframe to snap on the Monday of our stay due to heavy rain and wind conditions. The door had to be left balanced which was precarious when we were using it multiple times in the day when going out and about. 2. The house had changed colour from the photos on the website. House is now blue instead of yellow. This would not have been an issue if we had not been looking for yellow house because the signage for Moonrakers had washed off the house sign (piece of slate which was lying on the ground). 3. As mentioned above the house signage has come off the house sign so we found 20 Clarence Street so knew we were in the right location but went to drive pass 22 because no sign visible from the street and as I mentioned above the house we thought we were looking for was yellow not blue. 4. The hedge which runs the full length of the path was overgrown which meant it was awkward walking up and down the path particularly with luggage and bags. This hedge needs to be trimmed right back. We didn't notice this when we arrived but we think it sprouted because it was very hot Friday/Saturday/Sunday and then very heavy rain on the Monday and it was after this that the hedge was covering almost half the width of the path. Points 2, 3 and 4 are all quick and easy fixes which would help with visitors first impressions. Also I think it would be useful to update the notice in the kitchen regarding recycling. We took our glass bottles to Mayors Car Park but as we couldn't find any info regarding what to do with paper and plastic we brought our recycling home. When I popped into the office to hand the keys back the very helpful staff member said we could have put all our recycling in a black bag and these would be taken away and sorted when the rest of the rubbish was removed. This would be useful information to know. Thanks again for a great stay. We loved Moonrakers Cottage and hope to visit again if we are back in this area in the future. I would urge you to reconsider. We were forced to use a towel. Had I burnt myself or set fire to anything we’d probably be suing you! But otherwise … we had a brilliant time in a great location with fabulous views.

“This is the 3rd time we have been to Moonrakers as we love the house and location.”

We went in February this year and saw the damp in the kitchen where the roof is leaking and although it didn’t spoil our holiday we thought it would have been sorted on our return visit this month but sadly it wasn’t. Again it didn’t spoil our holiday but this problem needs sorting now. It is a lovely warm house with loads of room but just starting to get a little dated now. Could do with a bit of TLC. We will be back though as we love the views.

“We have stayed at Moonrakers quite a few times now.”

The improvements made over recent years are appreciated- such as garden improvements, more garden furniture etc. the cupboards seemed clearer this visit as there was very little room for food before ( we always self cater as there are 6 adults in our family group). We do find the double bed downstairs very hard and the family bathroom needs a bit of tlc- the toilet roll holder has been loose and the flush handle broken on our last two visits. Other than that, we always have a fantastic stay. There is everything we need , the house is so homely and the real bonus of two parking spaces. Also incredible views over the river. We are already booked in for next year! A great holiday in a lovely clean home.

“Although the house was excellent we found the service from Coastal Cottages below standard.”

They promised to call me about a request I had made prior to our holiday but didn't. On the moving out day they had moved offices and failed to notify us so initially, we took the keys to the wrong site and then had to be directed to the new office. I would strongly suggest that another dustbin is provided as two bins for a house that size is not sufficient.

The garden is delightful. We would certainly like to return provided we keep fit enough to manage the steps to the house! The hedge alongside the approach path needs cutting back - presumably this will be done when we are out of the bird-nesting season.

“Really nice House with stunning views over Dartmouth.”

I found the Sofa a little uncomfortable, back rest not high enough for me. House contains everything you will need for a really comfortable stay, including a Lovely Big Bath. There is easy access to the rear garden for dog owners from the lower floor, so you can dry your dog off in the porch after it has been outside. Parking is a little bit tricky but we were able to Park two normal sized cars without obstructing the next doors garage. Had a leak in the ceiling of the Kitchen bay window Christmas morning, as we had high winds and torrential rain, so ended up mopping up the floor and table before we could do anything else Christmas day. This happened once again when we had high winds and rain from a certain direction. We did notice brown marks on the ceiling when we moved in, but thought it only to be damp stains, (Have reported the facts to the office on departure). Apart from that we had a really comfortable and relaxing week in the house, my daughter says she had the best nights sleep in the upper bedroom, than she's had for years. Just a word of warning reference the steps and slope leading up to the house, they will certainly keep you fit.

“This was our 5th visit to Moonrakers - the perfect place to chill out.”

Weather was not so good this time sadly. The girls at Coast & Country office are a bonus (Holly, Paula and Jo etc) always on hand to deal with any queries - always so pleasant! We liked the makeover of the garden. It would be nice to have some new pillows - the ones in use are old and lumpy. On the 41 steps up to property it would be good to have white lines painted at edge of the steps (my husband is registered blind and the slope with steps is deceiving). We have already re-booked Moonrakers for June next year when hopefully the weather will be better.

Your records should already show my dissatisfaction at pre-holiday admin. That said, the cottage was great - we would book it again, but if possible through a different agent. While we would not miss out on any accommodation we wanted in future by not booking through Sykes, we would always look to see if it was possible to book through other agents first.

“We had a wonderful holiday.”

This is our third year staying here. The parking is a real plus and the views are amazing. As we were conscious not to go out to much we cooked every day and found we had everything we needed in the kitchen. The beds were comfortable and everything very clean. However, we were really disappointed with the garden. I left feedback about this last year too and we had hoped for an improvement this year. The grass was very long and untidy. The bushes are huge and borders untidy. The patio was covered in dried leaves from autumn last year- it looked generally neglected, and we were disappointed to find it in such a poor state- especially this year as we , along with many others, wanted to self cater and be around the house more. Having said this we left feeling like we had had a brilliant holiday this year. The position of the house was great, and Dartmouth looked lovely.

“This was our fourth visit to Moonrakers - we really do enjoy staying there.”

However, it must be said that we felt the property internally needed a "deep clean". The house this time benefits from smart new double glazing but the property is tired and a thorough deep clean would not go amiss. The outdoor furniture on the balcony was dirty and the garden furniture on the patio has definitely seen better days - we had lovely weather but did not feel the seating was clean. Having said all the above, it is a lovely property and a great location and we will consider booking Moonrakers again.

“This was our sixth stay at Moonrakers so obviously we enjoy this property.”

It is spacious, comfortable, well furnished and has excellent views over the River Dart and countryside. On sunny mornings the light streams in through the windows and it is lovely to sit on the verandah enjoying the views over to Kingswear. Even on a dull or rainy day one can enjoy watching boats, trains and even an occasional helicopter from the comfort of the sitting room or kitchen. Potential guests do need to be aware that these views are due to the property's elevated position therefore there are 38 steps to climb to the main entrance. We always end the holiday fitter than at the beginning! Parking for two small cars is invaluable though it is a slightly tricky reverse to get onto the street.

“Specification of facilities (use of swimming pool) had changed.”

Although this was mentioned in small print on the website, it would have been helpful to have confirmed this detail to us when we booked. This was our fourth or fifth visit to the property. Our complaint on this point was not dealt with well. I was advised it was 'all my fault as I had not read the small print'. Some empathy would have been helpful. Much of the crockery in the property is looking tired now and replacement should be considered. Why were there only three dishwasher tablets for a property of this size. Is money really that tight?

Lovely place in immaculate condition. The climb from the road is exhausting at our age and the parking is very troublesome with a big car. Tight for space and a reversal into a road with no view until right out. Ha.ve loved previous stays but age has caught up with us and we will seek something not so exhausting next time

“Brilliant views.”

“Excellent property within a few minutes walk of river and town.”

Pleasant garden with sitting area. Good quality fittings and equipment throughout property. People with mobility difficulties need to be aware that there are approx. 20 steps between street level and the entrance to the property. However the elevated position gives views of the river from the sitting room and upper bedroom. Lovely to sit on the settee in the evening and see the lights of Kingswear across the river.

“A lovely quiet house with a parking space which is important to us.”

Great river views from all rooms. House very clean and spacious. Only a couple of minutes walk and you are in the centre of Dartmouth and yet it is very quiet - no road outside!

“Superb place and in beautiful condition.”

Only complaint is that there is an arduous climb from the road and although I am a fit 70 year old it took a lot out of me carrying lugggae etc. up and down (especially up). I feel a word of warning for the older or perhaps less fit and able is necessary as I am concerned that some clients might not cope with the demands.

“Excellent location, views and facilities - it was as if the owners/their family had just left their house for us to move in to their well equipped home!”

Although the 'cleaning' liquid stain on the hall rug could not be treated the 'stains' that looked like red wine/gravy drips as someone walked from the kitchen perhaps could be removed. Only practical issue for us was the unclear 'recycling' requirements + only 1 extra black bin liner

“Moonrakers is in a very good position for central Dartmouth with the bonus of parking for 2 cars.”

It is comfortable, well equipped and spacious, having patio and garden areas. The bathrooms are probably in need of some updating but this did not spoil our enjoyment of the property.

The property

A light and spacious detached house, situated in an elevated position, enjoying excellent views over the town and towards the River Dart.

Just a five minute walk from the centre of Dartmouth, and within close proximity to nearby beaches, the property is perfectly located for exploring the local area.

Two steep flights of steps lead up to the properties spacious hallway (located on the middle floor), leading into the living accommodation, which enjoys river views.

The kitchen is well equipped, having been recently refurbished and enjoys river views.

The open plan sitting/dining area is light, spacious and comfortably furnished, boasting double doors that lead out onto a private balcony.

With three bedrooms in total, located on the lower level is an en suite King-size double bedroom.

Also at this level is a second double bedroom.

There is a large family bathroom also on this level, and an additional cloakroom with w.c.

at ground floor level.

On the upper level is a twin bedroom with two single beds (that can be zipped together to create a super-King size bed) enjoying wonderful river views.

Outside, there are two large enclosed garden areas, and a patio area, perfect for summer barbeques!

Free Wireless broadband is provided.

A car port is available with space for one large or two small cars.

Two well behaved dogs are permitted.

Totnes 12 miles.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.
