Drake's Retreat

A very comfortable, roomy, warm, clean and well equipped apartment with good kitchen, excellent shower and comfortable bed and settee.

John & Shelagh were welcoming and on hand for queries but not obtrusive. Welcome pack with fresh bread, butter, milk and delicious home-made marmalade. The apartment was very well situated for Plymouth Hoe & the Barbican and for buses and trains further afield - no need for a car. Plenty to do - as the weather was good we took the bus to Wembury, train to Looe and train to Ivybridge (to walk on Dartmoor). Took Cremyll Ferry to Mount Edgcumbe and another to Mount Batten.

John & shelagh were great hosts. The property was fab, very clean with all essentials required for our weeks stay. The homemade marmalade & starter pack was lovely. Drakes place is situated in a great location for hoe promenade & a short walk along the prom to the barbican with its many bars & restaurants. Will definitely return in the future.

A very cosy and comfortable property very centrally located, with the Hoe, barbican, Royal William Yard, the Box and shopping centre all within easy walking distance.

John and Shelagh were very helpful and accommodating hosts. The bed was one of the most comfortable we have ever experienced in a holiday rental and my wife was particularly appreciative of the generous wardrobe space.

We booked this particular property as it stated that there was an allocated parking space behind the property, this is not the case, the owners do provide passes for on street parking anywhere within "H" zone - which is a large area and could mean that you can only find a space some distance away.

This had a negative impact on our stay as it prevented us from using the car on some occasions for fear of not being able to park near the property.

This accomodation was absolutely on it!

The decor, quality of furnishings, style, cleanliness and provision of all the necessities, as well as quite a few extras and treats exceeded expectations in all areas. We could not have been happier. Shelagh and John were excellent hosts, there and available if you wanted anything but unobtrusive if you didn’t. We had the best stay in any property that I can remember for a long long time. Put Drake’s Retreat, and Shelagh and John at the top of your charts!! Geoff & Jean.

It's also in the perfect position for walking into town, or up onto the Hoe. We love it and hope to come again!

This is a lovely spacious apartment, well equipped and comfortable and in a great position near the Hoe, Barbican and city centre.

The owners are fantastic hosts. In addition to their generous welcome pack, John offered to pick up us and return us to the station when they heard we were travelling by train.

Drakes retreat is a lovely apartment , it has everything you need, even tho it’s a one bed apartment it is very spacious very comfy and cose, John & Shelagh are great hosts ,the one thing I will say is with it being a basement apartment there are a few steep steps to walk down so if you are on the older end you have to be steady on you legs ,but other than that we had a great week ,would highly recommend ,

We had a lovely week despite a lot of rain.

The owners were very welcoming helping us carry the luggage in and showing us round. They were always on hand in case we needed anything. The flat was very clean, comfortable, roomy and with lots of storage space. Great shower. Plenty of kitchen basics included plus fresh bread, butter, milk and home-made marmalade. Also flowers. Didn’t need the car as everything within walking distance or used the frequent buses, Lots to see in Plymouth including the huge National Aquarium, Box museum, the Hoe of course and the Barbican. Good for shopping too

All you could want is in easy walking distance. The accommodation is very comfortable, spotlessly clean and spacious. The owners Shelagh and John made us very welcome and were on hand upstairs if we needed anything. We would thoroughly recommend.

We were given a warm welcome by the owners John and Shelagh and shown round the property and provided with many tips for trips out and local pubs and restaurants. A nice touch was the milk, bread, butter and homemade marmalade which was well received after our long journey from Yorkshire. It was also a bonus having private parking at the rear of the property. The property is very well situated for the Hoe, the Barbican and the City Centre all that can be easily walked to. There was a lot to keep us occupied in Plymouth as first time visitors and I would recommend downloading the Plymouth Trails App onto your mobile phone to help you find your way around.It is also a good base to travel over the border into Cornwall which we did on a couple of occasions to visit Looe and the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

A quiet location close to local attractions including open spaces, local transport, shops, restaurants and cultural activities.

The owners are very welcoming and helpful. The property is very comfortable, warm and clean. It is exceptionally well equipped. We would happily book Drake’s Retreat again.

Beds and sofas and chairs are all exceptionally comfortable, the kitchen is very well equipped, and everything was extremely clean and in good condition. The flat is a very short walk from Plymouth Hoe. There was an excellent box of local informtion, and John and Shelagh could not have been more friendly and helpful with everything, taking in our supermarket order, helping us unload, advice on exploring the area. Plymouth is a really interesting city with a fascinating history surrounded by beautiful countryside. My only reservation about praising the lovely holiday we had at Drake's Retreat as much as it deserves is that they will then be so fully booked that we will be unable to return and we'd love to!

I had an absolutely lovely stay at Drake’s Retreat.

It had absolutely everything I needed and the welcoming gifts were lovely (bread, milk, homemade marmalade). The cottage is beautifully clean and very comfortable. It is in a lovely area of Plymouth very close to the sea. John and Shelagh are fabulous hosts and are so kind and helpful. I would highly recommend staying here!
