4 Coastguards Cottage

The property had a well stocked kitchen with everything needed and provided lots of other items like high chairs etc We loved the garden and being close to the sea but it was not very clean and we kept finding chocolate wrappers discarded under beds and chairs which had not been found when it was cleaned before our stay

We had a lovely stay at 4 Coastguards cottages.

The house was spacious for 4 adults, and well furnished with everything we needed for a self catering holiday. The chocolate and wine was a nice touch too. The proximity to the beach, with pizza and cocktails on Tuesday night was fabulous.

I think this was our third visit to this property and we love it because it meets all our needs.

We book it with our daughter, her husband and their 3 teenage daughters. They all love swimming and paddle boarding and as we had glorious weather were in the water all the time. This property is literally 2 minutes from the sea, so it's very convenient.

A lovely traditional coastal cottage in a row of cottages.

Very comfortable and family friendly with travel cots and highchairs etc plus good supplies of board games and beach games. The photos make things look bigger than they are, particularly the garden, which is a fine size but is made to look big in the photos. All well equipped including the kitchen. It's a 1 minute walk to the sea which is great with kids, although the better beach which doesn't disappear completely at high tide and therefore has dry sand is more like a 7 minute walk up and over the hill. Hope Cove is a beautiful place with just enough amenities (pub, bar, little shop, coffee shack) and you feel miles away from anywhere. Great access to coastal path to walk to Salcombe etc.

This was our second visit and we found the cottage very comfortable and spotlessly clean.

It was well stocked with the basic items that make life easier and are often missing in other properties - tea, coffee, sugar etc plus a welcoming bottle of wine which was much appreciated. The cottage is well maintained and all the appliances were working. The weather was kind to us so we were able to make use of the garden which is a sun trap and very quiet. The village shop, pub and restaurant are a short walk either across the beach when the tide is out or via the path which links Inner and Outer Hope. The owners are very helpful and supplied all the information we needed for a great stay.

Our actual stay in the cottage was excellent and facilities within the cottage were good too.

However there were a couple of noted items that needed addressing. 1. The radiators were rusty in parts and this in turn stained the towels which were hung to dry off. 2. The dehumidifiers were full and needed changing. The windows were streaming with condensation throughout. 3. The DVD remote did not function. On inspection, we found the batteries were old and had leaked onto the contacts. We did find additional batteries, but these did not resolve the issue. Whether the new batteries were old or the remote was too corroded, not sure. 4. We are not sure when the cottage was last used ? February according to the visitors book ? But we found the cottage felt damp and cold, even the bedding felt damp initially. The second day was better as we had left the heating on and lit the woodburner too.

A perfect getaway had everything you would need fully stocked with cups mugs plates washing powder tablets dishwasher tablets list is endless and towels and tea towels provided too great location and the sun sets from the house are priceless will be returning for sure

Very comfortable cottage

This was our 3rd visit to this beautiful property and it was as perfect as ever.

It has everything we need and is very comfortable and spotlessly clean. We are keen walkers, therefore the location is perfect for us too with so many lovely walks right on the doorstep.

It had everything we needed for four adults. Larger bath towels would have been nice but that’s a minor thing. Hope Cove is a beautiful place with good beaches, fabulous walks and places to eat and drink within walking distance.

This was the perfect holiday cottage in the perfect location - and we were even blessed with good weather.

The cottage was well equipped and spacious. The small enclosed garden was great for small children. The only noise we heard all week was birds singing. I have already looked at when we could book again. Thank you

This was our first winter stay in Hope Cove after previously staying in the summer months and I can thoroughly recommend it.

A beautiful house really well stocked for preparing a Xmas meal and with many games and books provided as well as a wood burning stove . A thoughtful welcome pack also . A wonderful week - thank you.

Lovely cottage with very comfortable furniture and very well equipped.

Two minutes to the beach too. No downsides for us at all. Enjoyed our stay so much we immediately rebooked for next year!

This is the 2nd time we have stayed and once again not dissapointed.

The cottage is always comfortable. This year we noted 2 new sofas which were fresh. We may have missed the bbq utensils but they would be a good addition? We also put the bins out on the required day and they weren't collected? We have booked for another year. Such a beautiful place and now our family holiday destination. Thank you

We have enjoyed time in August for six years in this property and are appalled that the day after we returned home endeavouring to book for 2023 we were told that the property was unavailable for anytime in August or July and had already been let.

Obviously we were not expecting to have any priority but would have thought that we might have been offered it or at least given the opportunity to rebook as usual.

Set in the best location lovely and peaceful but close to beaches and beautiful walks

A beautiful family home that we are very lucky to be allowed to share for one week a year!

We were saying that as three generations, ranging from 78 down to ten weeks the house suits all our needs, including a lovely garden with shade from the apple trees. All perfect!

The property was charming & in a fantastic location.

Hope Cove is a very safe place to swim & paddle board as there are no currents, which was great for our daughter & grandchildren.There are plenty of eating places in Hope Cove & the Post Office which is also a little shop had a great variety of supplies & also newspapers & croissants, sausage rolls etc, etc. We would definitely recommend & book again

Absolutely beautiful holiday home, with delightful owners !

This is an extremely well appointed holiday cottage, in the delightful Hope Cove.

We very much enjoyed our week, with lots of walking and reminiscing about my childhood holidays here in the 1960s. I would highly recommend this cottage, it's in a perfect tranquil location with plenty to do and see locally. I hope to return next year, thanks to the owners for sharing their holiday home.

We absolutely loved the cottage, although in the end we were a party of six adults and a toddler and we felt that the house was almost at capacity.

The downstairs area seems rather too small to accommodate eight adults comfortably. Of course, it is ideal for families. The cliff top walks, the sea, the seals and the sunsets were just amazing. The cottage is fantastically well equipped and very clean. Lovely tokens of welcome from the owners too. Many thanks, much appreciated. Hope Cove is very lovely, and we feel sad that the current difficulties are preventing the pub and restaurants from opening as they would like. The village post office/ shop stocks only the barest minimum of tinned and packet foods and no fresh fruit of veg at all. There was no bread for sale while we were there, but they do a nice line in pasties, if you're quick. Our advice is to bring your own supplies at least for the first day or two. Our only other comment is the lack of recycling boxes available for No 4 Coastguards, as all the other houses seem to have them. We regrettably had to throw some recyclable items into the main bin.

very enjoyable , even with covid restrictions around

The cottage was in such a perfect location and was exactly as expected.

Its was quiet and off the beaten track. The cottage had all amenities as listed. We thought it might be helpful to have a few room fans to keep temperature comfortable at night? We did feel the level of cleanliness could have been better. Finger nail cuttings were found in a bedside draw and odd bits of litter not picked up in the rooms. However although this is helpful to note for the cleaning company it did not detract from our fabulous holiday in Hope Cove. We would definitely return again.

The cottage was superb, really well equipped, and a lovely cosy retreat away from the howling winds outside!

Hopefully we will be back!

Wonderful setting in a heavenly cove.

Fantastic cottage well kitted out and lovely location

Cottage was lovely but I'd suggest listing should be clear there is parking for 1 car only as cottage sleeps 8 people.

I also think given the price an expectation that guests should sort, bag up and log their laundry before they leave is unreasonable - this is not expected in hotels, so looks like a ruse to use the pandemic for a cost saving on the cleaning.

Great location near to beaches and village, with plenty of space and comfort indoors and out.

Only problem was access to car parking, with visitors in neighbouring cottages bringing 4x4s and boats.

This is a lovely, sunny and comfortable family house within yards of a beautiful sandy cove and stunning cliff walks.

The space in the cottage is very well organised, we had a perfect week with children and grandchildren.

House was lovely.

Listing didn’t mention a nespresso machine but there was one there so I needn’t have brought ours. My interactions with your staff was very good.

Good location for a beach holiday and golf!! Wasn't too keen on the narrow lanes...good for reversing practice!!

We have stayed here for the last 3 years and love the house and it’s beautiful location.

The house is spacious and really well equipped, the garden is great for the kids and the beach is only a couple of minutes walk. We will be back!

The house was large and spacious for our two families which was great .

The washing machine and dryer which were invaluable. The beach was close So nice . The decoration sofas and beds were very good I liked the English country garden look . The heating did not work so I was cold at night I think so large warm throws would help for the bed my husband phoned and got a reply from Charles the owner about the heating . We love hope cove as we holidayed in the summer 1985ish. the sea was lovely to swim when it was sunny. I liked the garden as the children could play and we could relax in nice surroundings.nice lawn and flower beds We enjoyed lovely family meals at the big table . The telly was used a lot and enjoyed. I found a nice coffee place in a hotel nearby. Some of the family did the coastal path from Overbecks. Eiji grandson 4 years and Juno granddaughter did bike riding scooter round the road at Inner Hope which they really enjoyed. So thankyou the house was clean thankyou housekeeping staff.

This cottage is cosy, clean, well equipped and a perfect holiday get away.

It’s location is wonderful, so close to the sea. Hope Cove is a peaceful picturesque village with character. The cottage garden is a sheltered sun trap and even in November we were able to sit outside without coats. We enjoyed lighting the log burner in the evenings. We have now stayed here twice & want to return next year.

We had a really lovely holiday and the cottage is well equipped, especially for children having a high chair, cot, stair gate and some toys which was very helpful (saved on the packing).

I contacted the caretaker before arrival and she set-up the stair gate for us which was very helpful. The cottage is only a minute walk from a lovely sandy beach too!

This was our 5th booking to this cottage and it really is outstanding .
