“Hazel cottage was exactly as described and fully met our expectations; it was clean, comfortable and very well equipped.”

The area was very quiet and peaceful, making for a very relaxing holiday. The coastal path was only across the field and we had some good walks across Bolberry Down and to Hope Cove (good for dog walking); the weather was perfect for it. Malborough was only a five minutes drive away and the ASDA Express had just about everything you forgot to bring. Also Ashby's, towards Salcombe, had a farm shop, café and lots of more 'up-market' provisions. Salcombe itself was a very pretty village only about ...

The area was very quiet and peaceful, making for a very relaxing holiday. The coastal path was only across the field and we had some good walks across Bolberry Down and to Hope Cove (good for dog walking); the weather was perfect for it. Malborough was only a five minutes drive away and the ASDA Express had just about everything you forgot to bring. Also Ashby's, towards Salcombe, had a farm shop, café and lots of more 'up-market' provisions. Salcombe itself was a very pretty village only about 10 minutes drive, full of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, gift shops, galleries etc., etc. At this time of year (Sept/Oct) not crowded. We ate at the Victoria Inn and at The Kings Arms, both on Fore Street, and can recommend them both; especially the Sunday Roast at the Victoria Inn (Sundays only). Parking in Salcombe was easy, but could be because it was 'late' in the season. Other places such as Buckfast Abbey, Slapton (infamous Slapton Sands), Paignton etc are all within easy drives of Hazel cottage. A note to drivers coming down the M5 and A38. The cottage instructions say to come via Totnes, whereas Google maps routed us around Totnes and down miles of single lane country lanes - it was a nightmare. My advice is to ignore Google maps and stick to the A roads (A384, A385 & A381) to Malborough via Totnes.

“Great stay at Hazel Cottage for three generations of our family and Luna the dog.”

Downstairs bedroom comfortable and good pressure in the shower. Good facilities for cooking - both in kitchen and Webber charcoal bbq. Garden secure for dog and grandchildren. Very quiet location within a complex of various properties. Lovely 20 minute walk to Soar Mill Bay and great walks along coastal path from the cottage. Fifteen minutes drive to our favourite South Milton beach. Excellent food at 33 by the sea in Bolberry. Generally clean but blinds were very dusty. Lounge cosy but sofas have seen better days!

“A beautifully cared for cottage in the most delightful and peaceful surroundings.”

Fully equipped with a home from home feel. This was our second annual stay and it felt like home! Even in 30 degree heat, the interior was pleasant due to the age of the building and the thick walls. Which was a godsend. It became a sanctuary from the heat! The layout suited us well with a ground floor bedroom for the elderly amongst us. Hope to return next year!

It is situated close to the South West coastal Path. Hazel Cottage was excellent for our group as it had a large kitchen with dining area. This was fully equipped. Every room was of a high standard with a lovely welcoming feel There was also a garden.

“We had an amazing stay at Hazel Cottage and we loved Soar Mill Cove.”

We enjoyed the beautiful garden and huge beds! We managed to see lots of birds and even wild rabbits in our garden. Salcombe and Kingsbridge are lovely places and the Cod Father fish and chip shop was lovely, but the queue was quite long. The chairs, blankets and sofa were lovely! Thank you! We managed to fit in a lovely 500 piece puzzle too! Thank you so much!

“Our second visit to Hazel Cottage.”

It really is a home from home. Roomy enough for all our family and dog, very well equipped and in a beautiful, peaceful area. Very clean and tidy, with all the comforts and facilities you would want. Lovely, fully enclosed rear garden and two car parking spaces. Hazel Cottage is also perfectly placed to visit all the towns, villages and beaches of the South Hams area. Soar Mill Cove is within walking distance too.

“Property very clean and extremely well equipped.”

But the directions were hopeless. You need to check the recommended route. Going through Churchstow is unnecessary and adds considerably to the journey. When approaching the property, the signs at the top of the turning aren’t there any more, but there is a bench at the top of the road which if mentioned would be very helpful. The property description does not make it at all clear that it is actually a mid terrace. The outside needs tidying and redecorating. The parking is difficult and rubbish disposal unclear. There is no code for the bins and we had to ask a neighbour where to find them. Recycling has fallen by the wayside and needs clearing before the Council would collect. Wi-Fi details wrong in the description. Accurate information would really help in expectations of the house. It is well presented inside except for the sitting room which is gloomy, dark and with very uncomfortable furniture. Also the tiles on the kitchen floor are uneven and could cause tripping. The garden doesn’t feel secure with 3 gates off it leading to other dwellings. Our disappointment could have been alleviated by accurate details of what to expect.

“We had a very nice stay at Hazel Cottage.”

We have stayed at one of the other cottages before but wanted a secure garden this time for our dog. The cottage was very comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. A very peaceful location and we had a couple of sightings of the Peregrine Falcon, Sparrowhawk and Kestrel from the cottage. Lots of walks from the cottage with Soar Mill Cove not far and Salcombe a ten minute drive. There are two steps down from the front door into the hallway, then three steps down into the kitchen so this cottage would be harder for anyone with mobility issues and I don't think these are listed in the description. There are six steps down from the car parking area but these are listed online. We have no complaints about the cottage but a large frying pan with lid or small lidded casserole dish would be nice. Also, it would be nice if the lawn was shorter to make poop scooping easier.

“Thais is a beautiful cottage,lovely bathrooms and comfortable beds and linen.”

It’s very well equipped except for lack of oven gloves and the washing stand is nowhere in the outhouse. The description should say there are steps inside the front door and again to the downstairs bathroom. The vine outside the living room back door is like a triffid and I was caught in brambles several times as we had to go around through the back gate as the front door became increasingly difficult to unlock and finally impossible. I have reported this and hopefully it has been attended to . The garden other than this is gorgeous. I loved this cottageWe always holiday in a cottage and this one is by far the best, especially as the price was better than the last cottage I rented.

“Large, well equipped property with a lovely garden.”

It is located in a cluster of buildings at the end of a long single lane track with good walking from the doorstep. As others have said the walk to (and along) the coastal path is hilly but this is to be expected in Devon. Well equipped kitchen. Lounge area is quite small for the size of the property and would be a tight squeeze for 6 seated. It didn’t bother us as there were only 4 of us and we spent most of our time outside.

“The cottage was wonderful, good parking and beautiful enclosed garden.”

The kitchen was well stocked and the property was clean and comfortable. We found it difficult locating the bin collection point, more instructions and a photo would be useful. The TV sound wouldn't work otherwise first night but we fixed it after 30mins. It broke again later on in the holiday but we fixed it again. We wrote some notes on how to fix it. The beds weren't in the configuration that we requested, and the double beds are really small. So we made do as it was at the weekend and we didn't have an off-hours contact number. Communication with Skyes on their WhatsApp seems like a chatbot and they gave us the wrong information and were not very friendly. It's not great when there is no local off hours contact as we started our stay at the weekend when you needed them most. But the actual property was really great and we had a very good holiday.

“Our third stay at this lovely cottage.”

Very well equipped and comfortable and so peaceful and quiet. Really enjoy having so many beautiful walks straight from the cottage door and the welcome pack was very much appreciated with lots of local tasty thigs to eat. It would be good to have some oven gloves as using a tea towel to remove hot things didn't provide much protection. Otherwise a really lovely stay.

Beautifully kept and maintained. So well equipped, the owners have thought of everything you could possibly need at a holiday home! A mix of period to go with the age of the property and the modern to provide excellent accommodation. Positioned at the end of a secluded lane amongst a handful of properties, Hazel Cottage is quite and peaceful yet near to excellent facilities in Malborough and right next to the Southwest Coastal Path and the glorious Soar Mill Cove. Hazel Cottage has a beautiful well stocked garden with a nice patio area with seating and BBQ; secure too for your dog! We loved our stay and would definitely recommend Hazel Cottage.

“Absolutely beautiful cottage.”

This cottage had everything we needed and the little touches and welcome pack made our stay perfect. We absolutely could not fault the cottage. The neighbours were having some drainage put in so we unfortunately had two solid days of workmen and digging equipment going on which was disappointing and spoiled two days of our holiday. I presume that the owners of the cottage were unaware as we hadn’t been told in advance of the works. Having said that I would definitely look to re book in the future and we really enjoyed our 5 days of absolute peace and quiet.

“We loved Hazel Cottage.”

It was perfectly located within walking distance of the coastal path and the beautiful Soar Mill Cove. We enjoyed coastal walks to the bars, restaurants and beaches! The accommodation was very clean and tidy with comfortable beds and crisp clean bed linen. We were a group of six. Our two sons brought their girlfriends and the cottage lent itself well to this as they all had the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom and we had the downstairs. The garden was delightful. Pretty flowers and a large outdoor eating area which we used every day. We were blessed with glorious weather and had a holiday to remember! Thank you.

“We had a lovely week at Hazel Cottage- the location was perfect for us and we enjoyed the stunning walks right on the doorstep ( the paths are steep so not good for people with more limited mobility).”

It is a great base for exploring the Salcombe area; we didn't venture very far as there is so much to see nearby. The cottage is well equipped, comfortable and homely- the lounge is a little small for 6 but this wasn't a problem for us- we spent most of our evenings outside or chatting round the kitchen table, enjoying the views of the garden. A lovely, tranquil setting ideal for relaxing after a day out and about.

“The house is very nice, but the listing should say about the steps between the downstairs bedroom that you advised as a positive (obviously not taking into account people book these property's because of one of the party having mobility problems) and the kitchen and bathroom, we can assist the person with mobility problems into the house, but after that they need to be up to go from the bedroom bathroom and kitchen without assistance (especially during the night) this did spoil our holiday somewhat, I have already put in a complaint about the fact that I went onto your live chat (did not hear back from you) and asked if it was all flat and was told it was, I was told they would double check with the owners and get back to me they never did, I have screenshots of that conversation if you ever need to see them.”

“Lovely cottage in beautiful peaceful spot.”

Wonderful walks straight from the door- our dog loved it. Good amount of kitchen equipment. The snug is an ideal room for the cot. It perhaps should be made clear there are steps down into the cottage and on the ground floor into the kitchen/shower room extension. The bin system in the kitchen didn't work very well- it fell off easily onto our toes.

“Lovely cottage in a beautiful location.”

Having never visited South Devon before, we were delighted with the walks on the doorstep and the close proximity of Hope Cove, Salcombe and other little gems (which we drove to, we’re not hardened walkers!). The garden is lovely and the communal area outside of the gate has a beautiful view. The facilities in the cottage are great, if I had to give one criticism it would be the sofas….very low to the floor and very well used. Comfy, but a little hard to get out of after a long day out on the beach! A very dog friendly area and I have no doubt we will return soon. As a side note to the owners, perhaps take a look at the small window in the living room, we had a morning of very heavy rain and noticed that rain had managed to get in.

“STARTED POORLY BY BEING TOLD YOUR EARLY, NO SIGN OF A WECOMBE.”

SYKES FAILED TO DISCLOSE MAJOR BUIDING WORK BEING CARRIED OUT NEXT DOOR, 4 OF OUR PARTY ARE IN LATE 70S WITH MOBILITY PROBLEMS, NO INDICATION THAT THE WALK TO THE BEECH WAS A THREE MILE ROUND TRIP UP A VERY STEEP HILL. ON OUR LAST DAY THE WEATHER WAS COLD AND WET , THE HEATING WAS ON A TIMING DEVICE , NO HEATING AVAILABLE FOR 8 HOURS UNTIL AROUND 17.00 HRS

Due to the rural setting of the property, many of the walks from Hazel Cottage are beautiful but can be uneven terrain as it is near the coastal path. “Don’t get me wrong, we had a lovely holiday and the cottage was nice.”

It was filthy though throughout. The kitchen floor needed sweeping as did the living room floor. The plug hole in the shower room was full of gunge and hair as was the plug hole in the bath upstairs. We also found the furniture uncomfortable but I guess this is due to less soft furnishings due to Covid so that can’t be helped. It is a really nice cottage, we were just taken aback about the lack of cleanliness.

“The house was spotlessly clean and provided much kitchen equipment.”

It is also a great location from which to visit wonderful coastal scenery. We would, however, like to warn dog owners. Please note - and this is important - that there is a grape vine growing over the fence/wall at the top of the back garden (on the right as you look out of the house) which is shedding grapes onto the ground. Grapes are highly toxic if eaten by dogs and can be fatal. You will need to monitor that your dog does not wander into this section of the back garden.

“Just a small point in the instructions to the location.”

You stated on the instructions to turn into the road with Southdown Farm/Soar Mill Seeds sign. There is no sign at the end of the road. The only sign says Rangers Office/National Trust. It would be better with those instructions.

Nestled in a peaceful spot, yet just three miles from Salcombe, this is the ideal bolthole for a quiet family holiday. Six steps lead down from the parking area (where there is room to park two cars) to the cottage entrance and lobby.

The cosy sitting room is very comfortable and has a glass door leading to the garden.

The kitchen/dining area is beautifully finished, with a high vaulted roof, lovely views across the fields and farmland, and a dining table for six.

There is also access to the ground floor shower room. Also on the ground floor is a bedroom with double bed.

On the first floor is a second double bedroom with window seat to enjoy the rural views, plus a twin room with zip and link beds which can be set up as a King-size bed (please request at time of booking). At this level there is also a small 'snug' room, ideal for children, with sofa/day-bed, plus a new, fully tiled family bathroom with bath and shower (over). To the rear of the cottage is a large terrace with lovely views, picnic table and built-in barbeque - steps lead down to a mature garden with good-sized lawn, trees and shrubs.

A further courtyard area has an additional picnic table plus a shed/utility room. The cottage is ideal for family groups or couples looking for a cosy, comfortable retreat within easy reach of local beaches and the surrounding countryside.

The attractive village of Malborough boasts a multitude of thatched cottages, a village shop, two excellent country pubs and a thriving post office. It is located just 2 miles from the popular sailing resort of Salcombe, the southernmost town in the South Hams. Boasting a beautiful, scenic coastline, Salcombe is ideal for enjoying sailing, watersports, coastal walking or for simply soaking up the sunshine. Observe the plentiful wildlife in the area, visit several country houses and gardens close by or visit the lovely market town of Kingsbridge. Alternatively, explore the wide open spaces and rocky tors of Dartmoor, just 15 miles away. A perfect holiday location, with much to see and do.
