- Perfect size for a couple and two children. - Quiet and convenient location for Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Bantham beach and Hope cove. - Lovely back garden for drying wetsuits and eating - Everything is squeaky clean and well maintained - Last but not least, the owner, Stu was so lovely, informative, helpful and genuine. Course, we’d love to come back and highly recommend this place!

“We loved our stay at Stable End.”

We couldn’t have asked for a nicer, more peaceful place to stay. Everything we needed for a week away with two children was catered for. The highlight for us was the garden - our son loved using the Merlin app, which the owner Stuart recommended, to identify the many birds that visit.

The BBQ was very clean when we came to use it. It is also good that you can park very close to the Property. The cottage is really clean and comfortable and is in a lovely peaceful countryside location not too far from the sea. There's a nice private garden to sit out in, when the weather's good. Wonderful walks from the door in all directions. There really is no need to use the car. There is a convenience store in Marlborough which we found useful.

“Stable end cottage is a beautiful cottage in a lovely quite location but handy for all amenities.”

The fixtures and fittings are all 1st class although the downstairs shower is a little small. Overall we could not fault the accommodation. The owner lives next door and was very helpful in advising us how to navigate Salcombe as the roads in the village are mostly single tack. The area would be great for anyone who enjoys walking as there are many opportunities from the doorstep.

Only downside was no shower over the bath but we got round that by only using the walk in shower downstairs. Owners very helpful, and cleaning and linen change was done after one week.

It was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. There was even some new comfortable garden furniture in the enclosed small garden. We didn’t use it as much as we would have liked due to poor weather. We loved the peaceful location, not far from the small supermarket and bus stop. Parking was very easy just outside the front door. We enjoyed some lovely walks from the property without having to use the car. A fantastic base to explore a beautiful area. The owners have obviously thought of everything to give visitors a great place to stay. Thank you.

The property has ample parking and is always spotlessly clean and very well maintained. We tend to eat in and the kitchen area is more than adequate for our needs. There is excellent TV reception and good internet access. It is situated in a quite valley surrounded by beautiful countryside with access to public footpaths nearby. We will be returning in 2024.

“Stable End cottage is in a perfect location, surrounded by countryside it has lots of places for walking and enjoying the Devon countryside.”

It is also very close to the lovely town of Salcombe which apparently is the Kinightsbridge of Devon with its fabulous independent boutiques and harbour. The cottage is peaceful a real bolt hole from the noise of life. It has an amazing huge bedroom with tons of storeage space, a lovely en-suite bathroom with a bath and amazing views across the countryside. The smaller twin room downstairs is a fair size, I think if there were 2 adults in there it may be a bit of a squeeze, but perfect for kids or one adult. Great size shower room downstairs. The cottage is comfortable and is equipped with all you need for a good stay including some cooking utensils, iron, hoover etc. There is a really nice garden area where you can sit and relax looking out over the countryside. The cottage was very clean and tidy and looked brand new. My advice would be before arriving call the owners for directions as the ones on the website lead you to a new build estate and you can easily miss the turning for the cottage. I would highly recommend this cottage as a perfect place to stay in Devon.

Cottage is well equipped, spotlessly clean, very well decorated to a high standard and in a beautiful quiet location, secluded but easy to get to. Very handy for Salcombe and surrounding coves and beaches. Hope Cove was a gem to find. Our weather wasnt perfect but it would have been great to make use of the garden and BBQ provided. No phone signal for us but wifi good so not a problem. Really enjoyed seeing wild Deer in the field most days along with other wildlife. Perfect location for relaxing holiday. Thank you.

Location was superb. If not eating out, local Co-op and Ashbys had good quality supplies. The owner came to greet us after our arrival which was lovely, and gave us some useful tips about where to go. Our only issue would be to comment on the fearsome draught through the bottom half of the front door, which, as we had some very cold days, meant it was difficult to get the ground floor warm enough (upstairs was fine).

“A delightful cottage in a quiet location but within easy reach of daily needs.”

The pretty patio garden with its open views is private and perfect for al fresco dining. The property is very well presented and is well maintained and equipped. There are attractive villages and wonderful beaches all around accessed by typically challenging Devon roads. HOWEVER, Sykes Cottages need to update their directions i.e. the garage at the crossroads in Malborough is now the "Co-Op": the final direction stating turn right at last house in Collaton Road leads into a new housing estate, so please add "then turn left" (as this extra turning looks unlikely).

“Lovely cottage.”

However property advertised as having WIFI, but wasn't working properly and the owner said that even when it was it was slow and unreliable. There was also no phone reception. This made it very difficult to plan anything to do with a toddler on a wet week! There was also no phone to use to contact emergency services. Would use the company again however.

Our only concerns were that it stated Broadband was available, however this was not the case but the owners apologised for the problem and no mobile signal either which I know is out of their control. It just happened that our holiday coincided with some concerns with my parents at home and I would like to have had better contact with them in the cottage via wifi for example rather than having to go up to the top of the hill each time I wanted to call them. The property itself was lovely and comfortable, great facilities and plenty of room. The owners were delightful and very welcoming and I would highly recommend this property, unless you need to be online at all times.

The views from the secluded terrace were wonderful with plenty of wildlife To observe. ( red deer etc).

“Lovely accommodation with pleasant owners.”

There to welcome and there if needed but privacy entirely respected. I was also given a complementary Riverford organics box. I took the trouble to advise well in advance that I was veggie-but still got given a packet of bacon and at least a pound of sausages. C&CC may have passed the message on but having it ignored did not impress. They might also like to think about cleaning the chiller packs -they smelt appalling and unwelcome alongside stuff to be eaten.

The property

Stable End Cottage is located in a picturesque rural setting just half a mile from the village of Malborough and two miles from Salcombe's beautiful waterfront, shops, restaurants, cafes and the passenger ferry running to unspoilt sandy beaches.

The rugged South Devon coastline is just a short drive away with superb walks across to Bolberry Down close by. This tastefully furnished renovated barn enjoys far reaching views of the tranquil surrounding countryside from the main bedroom and terrace/garden.

The open plan kitchen is equipped with a fully fitted and stylish hardwood kitchen with modern appliances.

The open plan lounge / dining room has a TV, dining table and door out onto the private terrace where guests can enjoy al fresco dining in the summer sunshine.

On the first floor there is a super king bedroom room with an en-suite bathroom whilst a twin bedroom with adjacent shower room is on the ground floor.

Outside is a private walled terrace with table, chairs and a barbeque, and parking for up to four cars.

It is located just 2 miles from the popular sailing resort of Salcombe, the southernmost town in the South Hams. Boasting a beautiful, scenic coastline, Salcombe is ideal for enjoying sailing, watersports, coastal walking or for simply soaking up the sunshine. Observe the plentiful wildlife in the area, visit several country houses and gardens close by or visit the lovely market town of Kingsbridge. Alternatively, explore the wide open spaces and rocky tors of Dartmoor, just 15 miles away. A perfect holiday location, with much to see and do.
