Lower Fernlea

Lower Fernlea is a really nice property.

It is in a great position, good facilities and lovely sitting room and terrace. The parking space is a real bonus. The only reason for giving it less than max stars are the mattresses in the upstairs bedroom. One is convex and the sheet will not stay on and the other is concave and made my (adult) daughter’s back sore. If the mattresses were replaced we would book it again.

Generally good - great location and loved the decor.

The main bed was a bit on the small size, there was a lot of noise from a property upstairs which I wasn’t aware of and not overly impressed with the to-do-list on check out.

This is a great property, very well equipped, clean and very comfortable.

We couldn't think of anything that we'd want to change. Well done to whoever did the specification. Also it is superbly positioned for the town and all its amenities. Shall definitely be booking again next time we come to Salcombe.

The only negative is Lino on the main bedroom floor! It’s really off putting and felt very 70s Butlins. The upstairs twin bedroom has carpet. Most peculiar. Also the shower heads both could do with descaling or replacing. Otherwise it was ideal. We had a lovely time.

Great location with parking being a bonus had all the facilities we needed and overall the property deliver the good stay Points to note, the property does need some updating such as cracked work surfaces in the kitchen, the upstairs bedroom door does not close due to the single bed and staying in January it was noticeably cold on the upper floor

Only a couple of things, one of the cupboards in the kitchen was very loose, the front door stuck when you tried to open it and the bedroom upsides would not close due to the beds. All of which are fixable. Would definitely recommend the property.

Everything with the property was good but we were very disappointed about early morning noise coming from one of the other properties as it was a holiday with some convalescent as she has had a tough few years with illnesses.

I can’t understand why people were moving furniture around their property at 7:30 am in the morning and continuing the noise till about 9:00 am.

This property is perfect for a weeks stay in Salcombe with a large living area suitable for four adults, easy access to the town, plenty of hot water and space for coats, shoes etc.

The kitchen is very well kitted out with utensils/cooking equipment and the balcony catches the morning sun and lovely for breakfast in good weather. The fridge is best set on the highest setting otherwise items end up frozen and the double bed is a little soft.

The property was not fully refurbished to a high standard in recent years (as quoted in description), sadly the property was unloved and due some maintenance.

The location and parking are the properties winning factor, however the overall cleanliness is much to be desired. The quality of the bedsheets, and towels, not to mention the uncomfortable bed are not fitting of the price tag. There also needs to be more transparency about the building work next door, and a 10% reduction does not cut it.

The fact that there was noisy building work going on next door was not sufficiently flagged.

As regular Salcombe visitors we don’t read the fine print relating to location at the end of which there is indeed reference made to refurbishment work going on next door. Although it doesn’t refer to the scale and noise associated with the work. I understand from the local agents that there would have been a specific additional red warning at the time of payment had we not done a last minute booking, which would have alerted us to this fact. Whilst an offer of a 10% reduction was made and accepted this is really not sufficient to compensate for the disruption, and we remain very unhappy with the transparency of booking process.

An ideal location close to the town, it has everything you need.

Steps up to apartment are a bit steep but a great apartment.

Lovely stay at Lower Fernlea, very close to everything we needed in beautiful Salcombe, very clean and well equipped accommodation, just a little mention, really do need bed linen that actually fits the double bed, and a more comfortable duvet would be perfect

the location is great and having off street parking is a bonus.

Unfortunately the people using the flat above Lower Fernlea were very noisy and could be heard very clearly through the ceiling and the walls upstairs.

We had a lovely week in Lower Fernlea, despite the weather not being as kind as normal.

We found the accommodation to be clean and well maintained and was in a perfect position for all the amenities that Salcombe has to offer. The sun terrace was great for breakfast and the parking below was definitely a bonus. We will come back next year and have already recommended Lower Fernlea to our friends.

We enjoyed a lovely week long stay at Lower Fernlea.

It was a great base to explore Salcombe and the wider area. The property was as advertised and was in a good clean condition when we arrived. We took one large vehicle and it easily parked in the space available. I would think two medium size cars (e.g. Ford Focus) would be a squeeze. The availability of the EV charger will likely be very beneficial to anyone with and EV travelling a long distance or planning to explore a lot. Whilst the upstairs bedrooms are only 2’6” they were manageable for an adult during our stay, although anyone of greater than average height would really struggle for headroom when using the shower in the adjacent bathroom. In comparison the ground floor en-suite was much more suited to somebody taller. We reported a couple of issues at the end of our stay. The broadband went faulty on the final day but there were good mobile signals on the EE and O2 networks in the area so we managed. The timer on the boiler kept stopping, which meant sometimes the boiler may not have come on before we got home or not gone off. In the end we just resorted to manual activation. We wanted the owner to be aware so that this wasn’t wasting energy and their money. Overall, this was a good property, well suited to our stay and we would consider it again in the future.

It’s the perfect location for a trip to Salcombe. We absolutely loved our stay and would love to come back. Thank you for allowing us to bring my dog too, it was his first time going to the seaside and he loved it. He also loved watching people from the outside area walking past the property.

Lower Ferlea is ideally placed to walk into town where there are plenty of pubs restaurants and lovely shops plus the Quay and the most stunning views you could ever wish for. The apartment was a nice size. 2 bathrooms and parking was a real asset. The 2nd bedroom is fairly small and has no wardrobe which is fine for a short stay but it was a bit tight for 2 adults. Also had small problem with ants in the property. There was ant killer provided so I guess this must be an ongoing problem. We rectified the problem with water but may need some further investigation. The apartment is equipped with many extras in the kitchen to make it feel homely and comfortable. We had some noise (scrapping of chairs) from the apartment above but as we were out and about a lot this was not a problem for us but useful to know. The apartment has a lovely large balcony which was a real sun trap. The umbrella was a real bonus and provided the shade we needed. We had a lovely stay and would recommend to others.

We have stayed in many properties in Salcombe and this is one of the better ones.

The location is brilliant and the terrace is great. The property is a good size for a family of four with young children (ours are 13 and 10) and was clean, tidy, comfortable and well maintained. The only downside was that the people staying upstairs (in another property) were very noisy in the early mornings.

Clean when we arrived and easy to keep clean. One of the better apartments, we have stayed in.

Very comfy mattress, slept really well! Really thoughtfully equipped. Super clean. We had a lovely stay and feel this cottage is quite the find!

Really nice place with everything that we could have wanted.

Great to have the patio and chairs out front with the sun on it until mid afternoon and also to have onsite parking. Short but steepish walk into Salcombe centre and handy to have the park virtually opposite for walking the dog early and late in the day. Only slight downside on the property was the bed was a little too firm for our liking. I would also make a point about having to pick the keys up from the Agent's office on arrival rather than have a secure key case outside the property to access. Despite having set off early (we had a 300 mile drive) traffic delays on the way put us under pressure to get to the office by the final pick up time of 16.00 and when we tried to phone ahead to advise that, firstly we couldn't get a signal and when we did, we were put through to the head office. They were able to advise of the backup arrangements, which shortly afterwards were messaged to me by the local office but perhaps the back up arrangements could have been advised in the directions and pick up instructions sent out beforehand?

I suspect someone came in and fixed a lighting issue on Saturday morning whilst we were out - which we were grateful for as the sitting area light were either out or flickering on Friday night when we arrived.

Might have been nice to have been informed that someone was going into the property though! A rug in the sitting area would have been appreciated - cold floor! Otherwise - lovely cottage - great location and parking. Managed to use the patio furniture too!

Great location, as only a few minutes walk to the main street and estuary. Balcony out front was very spacious and a sun trap for most of the day, having parking spaces was great (officially 2 but we only had 1 car, would have been a squeeze to get 2 in). The house itself was well laid out, and had all amenities for a week's holiday. Spotlessly clean. Double bedded room had a relatively small bed in it, and the mattress was a bit too soft for our liking, which was our only negative

Good property. Excellent location. Well equipped. Some issue with noise from flat above causing problems for sleeping of very young child in our party.

Great property & location in Salcombe, opposite the park & close to Main Street. Modern, spacious & clean decor. Worked very well for our family & dog. Great outdoor space & parking space a bonus. Only slight downside was noise from surrounding property above. However, will look to book again next year. Great service from property company.

Good location. Nice apartment. Sleeps 4 but not equipped properly for 4. Needs a few diy jobs but nothing that would spoil your stay. Lovely sun terrace.

Lovely apartment, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. 2 points to note: the bin lid did not work and my brand new car had 3 big White patches on the roof and windscreen of milky white paint presumably caused by the driving rain into the open carport. It has been quite tricky to get off. Staff at C and C clearly were aware of the issue, might be worth warning future residents.

The apartment was lovely. Very comfortable and everything you needed was provided.

The place was ideal for a weeks stay, not too fussy but it was up for sale and felt a little tired around the edges. One or two areas could have been a bit cleaner, we mopped the whole downstairs area on arrival

Great until the hot water died on our last morning.

Nice accommodation but unfortunately the bathroom had not been cleaned so I had to do it when we arrived and the bed appeared not to have been changed. Not the usual standard as we have stayed many times in coast and country cottages and always been delighted.

It was ok, looked tired, chipped glasses, bed linen needs replacing, booking in November shouldn't make a difference to the standard of the property

We love a TV in our bedroom that's all it was lacking.

You really ought to buy yourself a new television.
