“We stayed at Great Torr Barn in July 2024.”

We were a party of 8 adults, 2 children and 2 babies under 1 year old. This was our second stay, having stayed at GTB 4 years ago - we absolutely loved it then. This time we did notice a few things that we feel bought the property down a little. Shortly after our arrival on the Thursday, some workmen arrived to start work on the septic tank, and we were told to not go down the far end of the garden as there would be dirty water down there. This is not really acceptable, with a 6 and 3 year old ...

This is not really acceptable, with a 6 and 3 year old who want to play and run around outside, and 2 crawling babies. We reported this to Sykes on Thursday, though it took a few days to be sorted and the dirty water remained throughout that time. The picnic table and benches that used to be outside the pool room is no longer there (though remains in the photos of the property). This was a shame as we enjoyed sitting in that spot in 2020. General cleanliness of the property was good, however the microwave had not been cleaned prior to our arrival (food splatters evident inside). It could do with some new baking trays, as they aren't in great condition now. Some old stains on the dining room carpets, and the downstairs bathroom's shower cubicle grouting and ceiling was quite mouldy and really needs a proper deep clean. Despite these negatives, we did all have a lovely stay. The kids LOVED the indoor pool (though 4 years ago we didn't have to pay extra to use this!), and we had some great days out at Bigbury Beach, Bantham Beach (both around 25 mins drive away) and Bellever Forest (about an hour drive away). The house and gardens are lovely, and great memories were made, but we just feel a little maintenance/TLC is required to bring this place back up to "excellent".
