“We had a wonderful stay at Onedin House.”

Everything about it exceeded our expectations. It was perfectly situated. The property was spacious enough for our family of 5 adults to either sit together or lose each other completely within the house! It was tastefully and comfortably furnished with a full range of kitchen equipment etc. The level of cleanliness was high throughout. The snug at top of the house with it's wonder harbour views was a bonus. The delightful well tended garden and the patio space was a lovely little sun trap for ...

The delightful well tended garden and the patio space was a lovely little sun trap for morning coffee. We appreciated the seaside touches around the property and enjoyed the references to the property's history. Our estate car struggled to get up the hill beyond the house on the day of our arrival so all passengers jumped out and took our bags out so that the driver could drive to the top and turn around. The Mayor's Avenue car park is a very short walk from the house (approx 5 mins) so on our last day we carried our bags and belongings to the car park in a few stints to avoid parking on the hill outside the house to load up. Lovely coastal walks beyond the castle. The town seemed to be coping well and respectfully within Covid guidelines. We had such a lovely tranquil week. It was perfect!

The property

Onedin House is a beautifully presented late Victorian property, located only minutes from Dartmouth’s town centre and boasting stunning views across the River Dart to Kingswear, and right out to sea.

Named by its former owners, the leading actors in The Onedin Line, the famous television drama series in the 1970's which was filmed locally, the property is on four levels and accommodates up to six people. Two steps from the street open in to an attractive, comfortable lounge area, which in turn leads to a very well equipped dining room with a lovely oak table and six chairs, and a well-designed kitchen with granite work surfaces and everything required for home cooking.

The back door leads out on to a secluded, south-facing patio with a teak table and chairs, and beyond this is a lawn and mature garden with a bench from where the views stretch right out to sea.

The garden shed contains a Weber barbecue, small table and crab fishing tackle for younger guests!

On the top floor is a delightful sitting room with a dormer window opening out onto a compact balcony with stunning 270-degree views across the river, right upriver to the Higher Ferry as well as far out to sea!

There are three bedrooms - on the first floor are a double bedroom with river views, and a front-facing twin bedroom.

On the second floor is a master bedroom with king-size bed and simply stunning river and sea views. On the first floor is a family bathroom, and on the second floor, there is a spacious bathroom with bath and separate shower.

An annual parking permit is provided for one car for the Mayors Avenue public car park /Dartmouth Park and Ride. About the location

DARTMOUTH

Totnes 12 miles.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.

The property is situated towards the bottom of Crowthers Hill, (which is a steep hill) and is only a 5 minute walk from the town centre. Crowthers Hill is also narrow in places.

The property is set on four levels.

NOTE - No parking at the property - parking permit supplied (car park is approximately 7-10 minute walk from the property). Please note that the Mayors Avenue car park is closed for the Regatta Week and parking will be at the Dartmouth Park and Ride
