    Parking was a known issue but I managed to get into the fee spaces within the market place and leave my car there so it wasn’t a problem.

Equipped with everything I needed with an added benefit of a washing machine. I would have liked an iron but that’s a minor point really. Overall I’d stay again here as it was really comfortable and clean which is what you really want when you are away.

The property

The Retreat is a well presented and cosy cottage over three levels.

The cottage offers accommodation for a family or two couples (maximum four adults). The cottage is located in the centre of Dartmouth in quiet Lake Street (just off Victoria Road).

The town's famous waterfront can be easily reached in just a few minutes for a wide selection of pubs, restaurants and shops or for boat trips, crabbing or simply to watch the world go by. The cottage is accessed directly from Lake Street via three steps into a lounge/kitchen area.

A well presented room with oak flooring, L-shaped leather sofa, wall mounted TV with DVD/CD, free wireless broadband for internet access, dining table with four chairs.

The galley kitchen has a range of units, four-ring ceramic hob, electric oven, slimline dishwasher, fridge and microwave, toaster and fresh coffee maker.

Stairs lead up to the first floor from the lounge area with integral stairgate at the top.

On the first floor is a double/twin bedroom with original oak flooring and stacker bed made up as two single beds and drawers, TV (DVDs only).

Stairs with integral stair gate leads to the second floor to a double bedroom built into the roof space enjoying a velux window, exposed beams and original Oak flooring.

King-size bed, TV (DVDs only) and hairdryer. In addition to the en suite cloakroom is a tiled bathroom on the first floor.

With bath, shower (over), w.c., wash-hand basin and heated towel rail.

Also on the first floor is a built-in cupboard with washer/dryer, small freezer and combination boiler providing unlimited hot water at all times.

There is also a clothes airer,iron and table board. At first floor level there are double doors out to a wide decking area over two levels.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth.
