Windwhistle is a beautiful cottage Very clean and wow the views were amazing The only downside was that it was at the top of a steep hill, but we were fit by the end of the week

The property

A gorgeous period property with river views, garage, parking and gardens, Windwhistle is ideally situated for exploring the coast of this exciting area of Devon and is the perfect host for your escape to Dartmouth.

Hosting three bedrooms sleeping six guests, this property is perfectly suited to couples or families looking for a central base in the South Hams.

Make your way up 6 steps to the entrance porch and into the hallway, discovering a handy cloakroom before you as you venture inside your home-from-home.

Be welcomed in by the well-equipped kitchen, boasting a contemporary interior alongside a high-quality range of appliances, here you can enjoy preparing a family-favourite meal before tucking in at the refectory oak dining table in the open plan living/dining room, the balcony doors ajar letting in the fresh coastal breeze, or choose to sit out and dine alfresco to make the most of superb views across Dartmouth.

End the evening cosied up on the corner sofa for a family film night, before taking the wide Georgian staircase upstairs to the first floor to find two well-presented bedrooms; both rooms are king-size, with both offering a stylish interior, while one has handy zip/link beds to be a twin on request to suit your group needs.

On the second floor is a further bedroom with en suite bathroom (new for 2022) and new carpets throughout.

Start each day with a refreshing rinse in one of the shower rooms, before taking your breakfast out to the second-floor balcony to start the day off perfectly with views of the Royal Naval College, River Dart and a birds eye view of the hustle and bustle of Dartmouth. Outside the splendour only continues, where steps down will lead you to a multi-level terrace garden with plenty of seating so you can follow the sun, as well as a summerhouse hosting an outdoor kitchen, perfect for the summer months.

As well as being the perfect property, Windwhistle also sits in the highly desirable location of Crowthers Hill, a quiet and pretty lane with footpaths and wooded walks on your doorstep as well as being within walking distance of the town centre of Dartmouth.

Take the short stroll along the waterfront of the River Dart estuary watching the boats bob about in the water before scouting out one of the eateries to enjoy a hearty breakfast, taking your pick from a wide selection of pubs, cafés and restaurants, serving local foods and fresh seafood from the coast. Once you have refuelled, explore the quaint narrow streets of the town to find an array of welcoming shops where you can pick up the perfect souvenir, as well as a scatter of art galleries well-worth exploring. Observe the floral displays and sculptures in the Royal Avenue Gardens, before joining either the South West Coast Path or the Dart Valley Trail to see more of this scenic area by either foot or bike, or choose to explore the waters of the river by boat for a day out with a difference. The Dartmouth Steam Railway is a must while in the area, taking you all the way to Paignton where you will find beautiful beaches, the wonderful Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, the Splashdown Quaywest waterpark, and plenty more to entertain all ages. Be sure to take a trip to the National Trust owned Coleton Fishacre House & Gardens just over the river in Kingswear to discover its 'Art Deco elegance' and RHS accredited garden, or venture further afield to find Salcombe, Brixham and beyond. A true delight of a property, choose Windwhistle for your next stay in Devon.
