The Barns @ Downton

The Barns is a good space for a family holidaying in the South Ham’s.

Plenty of room for kit and a generous outdoor area. All on one level and no thresholds, so good for a wheelchair user. We enjoyed our stay.

Lovely place to stay, great facilities.

We loved the hot tub and pool table, it was well located for attractions in the area. Only minor issue we had was with quite a few flies in the kitchen every day. Would definitely book this place again. Amazing huge suntrap patio area.

The accommodation was perfect.

Stunning kitchen, the pool table a bonus. Everything you needed was provided, if we were being nit picky we would have liked more toilet roll. we were surprised that there wasn't any welcome basics such as milk but this wasn't an issue. We did have to clean the hot tub before use. And unfortunately we didn't have hot water for a couple of days but when we were able to make contact with the company the matter was dealt with swiftly. Overall we can highly recommend The Barns.

This house is very pesant, quiet, peacefull and bright when the sun is shinning.

The place is nice, farmers nearby are very nice, and the location close to the coast and Dartmoor's Park is great. The hot tube is not easy to use and need a lot of wood. Heating the house is quit hard too but we spent a lovely time is this modern and confortable house. Thanks !

Lovely property and great location.

Interior was very well presented and lots of space to spread out. The hot tub and pool table were welcome additions. The garden was spacious and had a nice walk cut into the longer grass, however it would be amazing if the area could be made more dog secure. However with the passing cows (on a working dairy farm) our dog wouldn’t be left to roam as he was very intrigued by them!

It's a beautiful property with big private garden and good facilities.

We loved the kitchen as a central part of the house. However it was not properly cleaned, a lot of spider (webs) and dead flies And the amount of flies in the house was really annoying. Besides that we loved our stay and the beautiful surroundings.

What a beautiful barn in an idyllic location.

Minor points to note: lighting is very dim throughout the property; the main bedroom could do with a curtain that blocks out the morning light; a clothes airer would be useful to avoid the need to use the tumble dryer; accepting that houses in countryside locations gather dust, there were some areas that clearly hadn't been touched in a while and the bathroom floors in particular had been swept but not washed. One further point for future guests - this is an open plan barn with high ceilings and hard floors, so sound travels throughout; this is only an issue if your group have different wake or bed times. All that said, this is a great place to stay and we would happily return.

We found it dusty with dirty floors and lots of cobwebs.

There were also loads of flies and some fly catchers would have helped. Also some grip handles in the shower and staircase would be appreciated especially for the elderly.

Fabulous property- very spacious Hot tub - you need to start in the early afternoon to get this to the temperature needed and need at least a couple of bags of wood in readiness - well worth it though.

Especially when we can see the stars at night. Gorgeous accommodation- very good bedrooms and bathroom facilities. Loved the open plan kitchen but did not leave much cleaning products- had not been filled when we arrived. Lots of hair around from dogs, especially on the big beanbags so could couldn't sit on them by the snooker table as we assumed these were for dogs only. Gave a low score as we also had to clean down the outdoor furniture before we were able to use it. Lots of cobwebs in the lounge when we arrived so was not sure if the property had been hoovered. Very quiet which was wonderful Loved seeing the cows every day Hair raising one track roads if not used to them- especially with the odd tractor coming the opposite way

A simply lovely eco barn conversion, so well done and genuinely a home from home in terms of facilities and comfort.

Situated down a very quiet lane in the countryside so a car is needed. We really needed some peace and quiet and found it here but it was also very easy to get into Dartmouth for shops and restaurants etc.

Lovely home with ample space.

The beds were extremely comfortable and showers great! Could do with a hook for towel in the small toilet. Other than that there was everything we needed.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Barns, it was very clean and comfortable.

We will defiantly be back.

A lovely stay, in a peaceful setting, the accommodation was so warm and spacious.

Fabulous accommodation - well laid out and kitted out.

Comfy sofas and beds. Spacious bathrooms. Bonus utility room. Outside space very attractive. Hot tub brilliant but takes a long time to heat up so tricky if not spending the day at the barn. Fabulous once hot though. Great location and parking next to barn. One addition that could be considered is external washing line for wetsuits etc. Would thoroughly recommend this property - we'll be back.

The property itself is fantastic.

A very modern barn conversion in a lovely location. Beds were very comfortable although I think an option for a harder pillow is necessary for those with that preference. There was no way of cleaning the toilets during our stay. On arrival, the property seemed unclean, lots of dust and cobwebs in easily accessible areas. There was dirty washing in the dishwasher, presumably from previous guests. Windows weren’t very clean at all. Pool table was slanted despite this being a major selling point for the property, so a bit disappointed with that although I did not stop us from using it each night. Lighting wasn’t great above the table and sometimes it was hard to see which ball was which colour (mainly when playing snooker). Hot tub is great. Although, with it being wood fired it takes time to heat up. This is not always possible with days out etc and by the time it has heated, it would be pushing well into the night. I know this is not the case for everybody. Have to say that the maintenance team were great as there were a couple of issues during our stay which were fixed straight away. Communication with them via e-mail was quick and easy. Lots of flies at the property which is understandable as it is on a working farm. The fly spray provided did not quite cut it unfortunately. I think this needs looking at (if possible). I hope this feedback helps in the future. Thanks again for our stay :)
