“We loved our stay at 4 West park mews, and feel sad having to lower our score.”

There was just a couple of issues this time . The shower had to be replaced , also the bottom sheet is too small for the bed . This was constantly coming off. Plus the tap in the kitchen dripping constantly. Also the sound of mice under the step leading through French door onto balcony. The location, cleanliness are outstanding. We stayed here 2 years ago and truly love the place and would like to return if the few minor issues are solved Kind regards Nadine

“Enjoyable stay in cosy cottage.”

Loved the upstairs terrace for breakfast , We were very lucky with the weather! Great location with pubs and beach nearby. Main problem was being unable to contact owners. The office number provided failed to respond We rang on 5 diferent occasions to report issues. Some of the kitchen utensils need to be replaced. Two of the three frying pans are rusty and unusable. The bottom sheet on the double bed was too small and uncomfortable . Only one and a half toilet rolls were provided fot three people for a week.Otherwise a good place to stay.

“We were in the area for my daughter's wedding.”

The accommodation we had booked a year ago in Kingsbridge aren't became unavailable 20 minutes before travelling down from High Wycombe on the day of the wedding! The Airbnb owners were able to find this while we were travelling! It was perfect for us in every way, with the highlight of Hope Cove a very short walk away.

“We have been to this mews cottage several times over the last 10/12 years (Not during covid) and never been disappointed.”

We know it well and whilst ‘senior management’ has not been too well over the last few years she said earlier this year that she would like me to book West Park so at least we had something to look forward to later on. Only one issue, it seems there is some problem with the plumbing, cistern in bath room only large button seems to operate it, and there appears to be an air lock in taps in kitchen sink. A soft long handled brush would be useful around the living area. We were blessed with good weather whilst there, which always helps

Everything you needed for a relaxing week. Warm and cosy too. We just drove past the ‘yellow flats’ (looked cream to us) and didn’t realise we were near the top of the hill and drove to the Cove itself. But a kind local pointed us in the right direction so all good in the end. It was raining so visually impaired! But perhaps tweek the directions. Thank you for a lovely stay though

The front garden was fenced in and very safe for our dog which is a bonus and only 5minute walk to beaches. Hope cove is beautiful with lots of cliff walks with amazing views.

“An enjoyable stay, the property was very well decorated and close to the beach, the upstairs double bedroom is a bit snug although the downstairs bedroom is very spacious with lots of storage.”

A nice small welcome pack, note that if you want to use the Nespresso machine you will need to take your own coffee pods. Venetian blinds would be helpful at the windows as you are over looked by the neighbouring properties. Lovely to have a balcony and front garden to use.

Good appliances, big fridge freezer, big dishwasher, easy to work cooker. I sat out on the balcony for coffee a lot and it was a lovely view with a glimpse of the sea. Easy parking and walk to Hope Cove and Coastal Path. Had a great fish lunch at Lobster Pod, fortunate to have a sunny day as views were amazing.

“The apartment was just like the pictures.”

A well equipped kitchen with plentiful cutlery and glasses. The main bedroom was quite small and anyone with walking difficulties may find it difficult to walk past the bottom of the bed. Superficially clean inside if you didn’t move things. I mopped the floor and the second day we were there and the water was black. Not too sure if toilet rolls are in short supply in Devon but we were a bit surprised only to have a part used one to last four people for one week. We bought are own. Perhaps that information should be in the property details. The terrace and balcony were filthy. Full of cobwebs and dirt. I guess there is insufficient time to do more, but it does not give a great impression. I note that the cost of this property is increasing by nearly 85% for August next year and wonder if it is worth that. Other properties in the same block and estate are far less for the same time. If this was a school report it may read can do better.

It's a great property in a lovely coastal village, with everything you need. Easy walk to Cove, and Thurlestone Beach is lovely and walkable, dog friendly with a great end of day bar. We would have used a BBQ if one had been there, so that's the only reason we said 5 stars. Would be delighted to stay again.

“The fridge leaks a huge puddle of water into the floor overnight.”

The hairdryer overheats and cuts out before you’ve finished drying your hair. The lights on the balcony don’t work. The bulb in the light next to the bathroom has blown. The bin bags supplied are for a pedal bin not a swing bin so they’re useless. The details could say ‘washing line provided but bring your own pegs’ as no pegs is really annoying.

“Sykes is excellent and the cottage was in great condition and very well equipped.”

The cleanliness of the property was below the standard that I expect. Dirty kitchen utensils and cobwebs all round the cottage. Couldn't get one of the heaters working and wasn't comfortably warm enough. I hope my criticism isn't too harsh because we did enjoy our stay and would definitely book with Sykes again, but if I was the owner I'd want to know that the cleaning is letting it down.

“We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the flat.”

Given extra time is allocated to cleaning due to Covid-19 the flat was not clean. When we arrived we decided to disinfect amd bleach the main “touch/contact” areas for our own peace of mind. The light switches and door handles had obviously not been disinfected or cleaned as they were very grubby. We disinfected and bleached the bannister which is in the main entrance area and it was black - obviously had not been cleaned to this standard for a very long time. Again we cleaned all of the touch areas in the kitchen area - it was obvious the handles, taps and apparatus in the kitchen had not had a deep clean either. In the bedroom the bedside tables were not clean and the bed headboard was thick with dust and hand marks. In times of Covid we would have thought basic contact areas would have been a priority for cleanliness so customers have some confidence when staying in your properties. Given that you clearly stated extra cleaning time is now allocated we felt very disappointed and uncomfortable and would find it difficult to book with you again at the moment.

“Had a wonderful holiday in hope Cove.”

Have been going here for the past 4 years and it is is just breathtaking. The cottage was conveniently situated with just a short walk to the cove beach and bar and easy access to the coastal paths taking you to thurlstone, south milsom, batham, salcombe. Cottage has everything needed for a lovely break. The only suggestion we would make is a need for a side table by the two seater sofa so there is somewhere u can put your drink that has easy access. Cottage was very comfortable and clean and have no complaints. One complaint but (has nothing to do with the cottage) was other residents in the west park mews or west park flats that had dogs, clearly didn’t pick up the dogs poo appropriately and a number of times I would find a bag of dog poo in the courtyard/front garden of our cottage which was just out of order. I have a dog myself that is well behaved so I am annoyed that someone else felt the need to do this and not dispose of there own dog poo appropriately and leaving me to have to clear it away for fear of being penalised by the cottage letting agents As they would believe it was us that had did this as it was on our cottage area.

One recommendation would be to have coat pegs inside the entrance door for your outdoor coats instead of having to take them off upstairs. We would definitely go back to the cottage

I am very grateful to you for your feedback in respect of this property but disappointed to read that you found the twin room to be 'musty'. We will investigate at the earliest opportunity and advise the owner if any action is required. We will also take a look at the bathroom fan at the same time and arrange for it to be replaced if necessary.
I am sorry if our request to 'strip' your bed on departure has caused any offence. As you will appreciate there is very limited time available to housekeepers and/or owners for cleaning and preparation of accommodation between bookings, and we are therefore very grateful for any help and support guests can offer on departure to assist this 'changeover' routine.
We hope that in spite of these issues you were still able to enjoy your holiday in Hope Cove and that we will see you in the area again in the very near future.

Just the two of us staying in the accommodation and it was a perfect size. Only negative was the cleanliness. Although the kitchen was clean, the floors throughout had not been vacuumed. Bits all over. Not very pleasant. So I vacuumed it myself and it looked much better.

“The apartment was well equipped and clean tThere were a number of conditions which were not made clear on booking.”

Certainly I see little reason for a £50 fee for having a dog with me when the dog was prohibited from most areas. As mentioned in hte visitors' book by a previous tenant, the apartments opposite were very close and we felt overlooked in hte bedroom as there ware no blinds.

“There were some small extras that made such a difference and which were provided new; hand wash, toilet rolls, dish wash tablets, tea towel, j cloth, sponge scourer.”

The linen and towels provided were fresh and well presented. Where we usually stay we have to provide our own and this made us realise how convenient it was to have for us.

The property

4 West Park Mews is located just a few minutes’ walk from the fishing village of Hope Cove, and has delightful country and sea views towards the cliffs at Bolt Tail.

From the entrance hallway there is access to a ground floor twin bedroom and stairs which lead up to the open plan living accommodation with oak flooring.

The sitting area has a sofa and two comfortable armchairs, 32" Flat screen TV, DVD player, Wii games console and an iPod dock whilst a door leads out to South-facing roof terrace with table and chairs.

The dining area has a table which seats six comfortably meanwhile the well-equipped kitchen has granite work surfaces, a larder, four-ring ceramic hob, Nespresso coffee machine, electric oven and grill, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher.

The first-floor master bedroom has a King-size bed, plenty of storage and a 19" digital TV with DVD player.

The twin bedroom has two 3' single beds, plenty of storage and a 19" Digital TV with integrated DVD player.

The bathroom has a bath, shower (over), hand basin, w.c., shaver point and heated towel rail.

In addition to the terrace is a fenced front garden.

There is allocated parking for one car however additional visitors’ spaces may be available.

As a baby friendly property, a travel cot and high chair are available however guests will have to provide their own cot linen. With two sandy beaches, fantastic pubs and eateries, plus easy access to stunning walking routes along the South West Coast Path, Hope Cove is a fantastic location for a South Devon getaway.

Salcombe 4.6 miles; Kingsbridge 5.1 miles

The picturesque and unspoiled village of Hope Cove lies in the sheltered curve of Bigbury Bay on Devon’s south coast. A choice destination for families, the two beaches offering soft sand and rock pools for sandcastle building and fishing for small crabs. The town remains a fishing village where crabs and lobsters are still landed, however it was once used by smugglers. Many ships have perished around the coast and the wrecks that lie beneath the waves make it a popular spot for divers. Above the beach there are a number of pubs and restaurants. The coastal footpath can be joined from here and leads towards Bigbury-on-sea in one direction and the coastal resort of Salcombe in the other.
