Lovely farmhouse.

3 large bedrooms with an annex off one and a smaller downstairs bedroom. Kitchen small but adequate with good size dining room and loving room. Garden small but access to walk public footpaths through cow fields and down to river edge within 10-15min walk. Great remote location with Salombe, Bigbury and other snady beaches within 30mins drive. Not able to walk from property to local shops etc but easy drive. Well maintained and friendly host very close by. An amazing base for a family holiday. We enjoyed it very much.

This is a really lovely out-of-the-way house, very quiet and peaceful down a small country lane with almost no traffic.

You can walk from the garden down to the river, where we spent quite a bit of time just splashing in the river and walking the dog. It's less than half an hour's drive to a number of beaches, and 15-20 minutes to Kingsbridge, from where we caught a ferry to Salcombe, so it's very well-located for easy days out. The house is cool and shady on a hot day, with plenty of beds and bathrooms (3) and a utility room, very useful for keeping laundry and beach stuff out of the way. We ate our meals in the garden most days, which had a lovely view across the fields; we liked the large and sturdy outdoor dining table and the comfortable chairs. The wifi is good - always important! - and we made the most of the DVDs and jigsaws. It was very peaceful and idyllic. The only minor issue was that some of the pots and pans were not great quality, especially the non-stick ones, and not all of them worked well on the stove - and there were no large pots for cooking pasta (there were only 6 of us and we had to use two saucepans to cook enough spaghetti). This is a common issue with holiday rentals! So it's not a huge deal. But there was ample crockery, cutlery, bowls, colanders, chopping boards, serving dishes etc. The owner also generously left plenty of cleaning stuff, dishwasher tablets, bin liners etc, which was much appreciated.

We had a lovely visit to Crannacombe farmhouse.

Amazingly a week of sunshine and no showers so the barbeque and outdoor seating was a blessing. Everyone loved the garden and the river beach at the bottom of the field (where we spotted lots of interesting water insects under stones). We were lucky enough to see lots of sheep, cattle and ponies on a drive across Dartmoor and some lovely picnic spots by streams. We visited Fairy Cove and part of our group stayed into the evening and tried a bit of crabbing at the harbour then watched the Red Arrows air display. Lots of farm shop/cafés nearby and loads of places to go within a reasonable distance. Whilst we did occasionally wish that our car had the same capabilities as the Harry Potter night bus on meeting the recycling vehicle and lorries along the tiny lanes we loved the area.
