“Amazing location, property is an absolute gem - so wonderful to be right by the beach.”

We all enjoyed nipping down in our swim togs for a quick sea dip in the morning and the beautiful sea views from the house. Plenty of space for our group, which was 2 families and a dog. Beds very comfy (although having the option of a second twin room would be good for groups) and having 4 showers was great when we all piled back from the beach. Really well equipped kitchen. We would love to come back! Only niggles, being picky, were the very small patio/outdoor seating space and lack of ...

We would love to come back! Only niggles, being picky, were the very small patio/outdoor seating space and lack of recycling. It could do with a larger, leveled area for BBQ and outdoor living to fit the house size and guest capacity. We did manage to catch the recycling collection on Wednesday morning by chance, but it would be excellent to have a recycling bin for this.

“Savernake surpassed my expectation.”

Spacious, comfortable, extremely well equiped, impeccably clean, this is a holiday home that has been designed with consummate care and obvious love. To stand at the kitchen peninsular unit whilst preparing food with a view towards Thurlestone Rock was a delight. The three generations of our family thoroughly enjoyed all that the area has to offer, we hope to return. And yes, Tesco does deliver.

“A lovely house in a beautiful location but the outdoor furniture was very uncomfortable (not even any cushions) which was a shame.”

Also there was no cot or highchair available which is unusual for such a high grade of house. Despite having a recycling bin in the kitchen, there were no recycling facilities so we had to take home all the bottles, cans, plastic and cardboard rather than dump them as trade waste.

“Our first stay, and first multigenerational holiday and it was perfect.”

The glorious weather helped but we were delighted with the well-equipped kitchen, close proximity to the beach, the views from the house, the wonderful nature reserve next door, being on the south west coastal path… We would have liked some more comfortable garden furniture. Nothing to do with the house but we were sad that the beach cafe had burned down the day before we arrived.

“This was a multi generation family break spending valuable time with each other and our senior parents.”

We could not fault this beautiful house with stunning sea views, a stone throw from the beach and many wonderful walks straight from the doorstep. The photos did not do it justice. Loved the Laurence of Arabia connection, made the house extra special. Sykes and the owner were very responsive to our questions and needs and showed much kindness and consideration. Many thanks for letting us stay in your house and sharing this very special gem with us. This has been a truly memorable holiday and we hope to return.

“Lovely clean property.”

Accommodated our large family of 6 adults and 3 children. There was one day where we only had cold water all day which was the only negative of our stay. Some more outdoor furniture and some TVs in the bedrooms would have been good additions but having a snug with a TV in was good. Beautiful house and gardens. It is listed as child friendly but no travel cots or high chairs provided, however the house itself was great for kids as very little to damage! Kitchen was well equipped and there were some essentials to start us off which were appreciated. Plenty of parking for our 3 cars. We had a fabulous holiday and I would recommend this property.

Everything was lovely and clean, plenty of space for everyone and in particular the kitchen was well kitted out for a family holiday. We really enjoyed our time there. One suggestion - It would be great if there was a bit more garden furniture/a couple of sunloungers to enjoy on a sunny day

“A wonderful house in a fantastic setting!”

A great home from home, with everything we needed, for our family to get together for Christmas. Savernake hosted our four generations well. Spending our grandson's first Christmas with him was priceless. We are an outdoor family and having the beach and coastal path literally on the doorstep was perfect for us. We had two very happy dogs who zoomed around on the beach to their hearts content. Four of us adults even jumped into the sea on Christmas morning! Thank you Savernake for a truly amazing unforgettable week.

“I think the Owners should fit a Log Burning Stove in the Sitting Room.”

This would be safer than an Open Fire as we had to use on our recent Holiday. It would also be cleaner than an open fire. I would also like them to fit a Lazy-Spa Hot Spa. This could be located on the ‘flat ground’ outside the Dining Room, with a Water Supply fitted outside the House. They should also supply Wooden Sun Loungers to lie outside and enjoy the sunshine.

“Cottage location is perfect for a family holiday with the beach and clifftop walks right outside the front gate.”

The front garden is extremely large and with the view it affords, becomes an extension of the beach and countryside. Lovely property, enjoyed the week very much.

“This house has the best location in Thurlestone.”

You feel at home immediately and it's fun to cook in the new kitchen. We felt very comfortable. The proximity to the beach and the views are just a dream. Only thing we missed was the tumble dryer, which is listed in the offer under´ summary ´(Double oven, hob, Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, fridge/freezer, further fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer, TV, DVD, radio, WiFi)

“Savernake has a fantastic position and that is why we return again and again.”

Perfect garden. Cannot rate 5 stars because some light bulbs we had to replace and all heaters were left full on when we arrived that caused the small fridge in the kitchen to leak. After pulling the fridge out and turning off the heater behind it and all the others in the house everything was fine. Oven seal needs replacing and wooden table on patio is rotting and is dangerous for splinters.

“October 2016 Return to Savernake after 17 years and all exactly as we remembered it.”

Superb house, fantastic situation right on the beach with fabulous views. The house is perfect resist the advice to change, it has a lovely warm family feel. We have been coming here with extended family since the 1980s originally renting the house from the previous owners. My niece had her 1st birthday at Savernake in 1999 and this week celebrated her 18th here. The weather was great, the house very clean and comfortable and the scones delicious. We will return as we have many happy family memories at Savernake.

The property

Savernake is a spacious 1920's detached beach side holiday home and enjoys superb sea views from all the principal rooms.

It is located near the village of Thurlestone in Devon and is ideal for families and friends.

The property, once frequented by ‘Lawrence of Arabia’, has been extensively refurbished with a well-equipped kitchen/dining room, ground floor shower room and the inclusion of two en-suite shower rooms. The spacious entrance hallway leads into the ground floor accommodation with a staircase rising to the first floor bedrooms.

The kitchen also features a central island with breakfast bar and the dining area offers views over the garden across to South Milton Sands.

The main lounge also benefits from sea views with a further TV room provided. There are five bedrooms in total offering flexible accommodation for up to eight guests.

The master bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed and has an en-suite shower room.

Bedroom two has a super king-size zip and link bed that can be made into singles on request.

Bedroom three is furnished with a king-size bed and has an en-suite shower room.

Lastly, bedroom four has a double bed and the fifth is furnished with a single bed.

There is also a shower room on the ground floor and a bathroom, with separate shower cubicle on the first floor. The house stands within its own grounds with a large garden laid to lawn with mature shrubs to the front and a further lawned garden to the rear.

There is also ample off-road parking.

Thurlestone offers everything you might need to enjoy a quality break in Devon, with a golf course, pub and spa serving afternoon teas as well as luxury treatments.

The seaside resort of Salcombe offers sandy beaches and lovely walking opportunities, as well as many watersports facilities for those seeking a thrill!

Slightly further away is Bigbury-on-Sea, nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with a variety of beach activities.

Explore the South West Coast Path for breath-taking scenery and enjoy a healthy break at this superb retreat.

The picturesque village of Thurlestone is popular with both beach-goers and watersports enthusiasts, with the beautiful sandy beaches of Thurlestone and South Milton Sands within walking distance. Thurlestone boasts an 18-hole links golf course, a 13th century church, a traditional pub, a post office and the ‘Voyage Spa’, where visitors can enjoy spa treatments or afternoon tea. The sailing town of Salcombe is just a 10-15 minute drive away, and the fishing village of Hope Cove is a short drive away, or can be reached on foot via the South West Coast Path.
