“Fantastic location and property, but not for people with limited mobility, which I think the website is clear about.”

Beautiful views from the living room of the river and coast, even better if you go right to the top to the sun terrace. A slight damp smell on entering but airing the house as the owner advises cleared that up. We loved our week here.

The property

Dart Views enjoys striking views from the top deck of the garden, stretching out to sea and across the River Dart.

From the bright lounge, you can also look over rooftops to Kingswear’s colourful houses and watch the activity on the river.

Dartmouth’s shops, pubs, restaurants and tea rooms – along with the river itself – are just a 10-minute walk away. This renovated terraced cottage is located in ‘Above Town’, a quiet, narrow lane running parallel to the River Dart.

The property is set back from the road and accessed via a narrow path. Designed with pets in mind, the house features hard flooring throughout, a gravelled area in the garden, emergency dog supplies, and a dog visitors’ book for added enjoyment. Walkers are well catered for, with scenic routes directly from the doorstep, a washer/dryer, washing line, hooks for drying gear, and a full-size bath for a soak after long walks. Couples will appreciate the log burner on cooler days, sheepskin throws, and a well-equipped kitchen for preparing meals.

Just outside the kitchen is a private, enclosed patio deck with night lighting, dining table, parasol and seating – ideal for outdoor meals and evening chats.

A lockable gate helps keep your dog close by. This is an upside-down house.

The first floor features a bright open-plan space with a vaulted ceiling and large picture window to make the most of the impressive views.

The lounge includes a double sofa, two leather chairs, Smart TV with complimentary Netflix, a new dining table with four chairs, and a coffee table.

Additional touches include games, a yoga mat, binoculars and a log basket. The kitchen area is fitted with freestanding units and beech and stainless-steel worktops, along with a dishwasher, fridge/freezer, gas hob, and a full range of cookware, crockery and glassware.

A Nespresso machine is also provided.

Guests will find a complimentary household pack including dishwasher tablets, teas, coffee pods, biscuits, herbs, salt, pepper and olive oil. Climb the steps to the top of the garden to reach the decked area, furnished with a dining table, four chairs, two sun loungers and a bench – all positioned to enjoy the outstanding views.

The professionally landscaped garden was awarded Small Garden of the Year by the British Association of Landscape Industries. On the ground floor, the main bedroom features a king-size bed, local artwork, bedside tables and lamps, a mirror and a double wardrobe with drawers.

The second bedroom includes two 3ft beds, plenty of pillows, cushions and throws, bedside rugs, side tables, drawers and hanging space.

Lighting is provided by bright overheads and lamps from Bert & Buoy, a local Dartmouth artist, to enhance natural light levels. Also on this level is a family bathroom with a full-size bath and shower, toilet, washer/dryer, and a second shower room with toilet. The property welcomes one large or two small dogs, with treats, bowls and an emergency lead provided. Dart Views includes one free parking pass for Mayors Avenue in central Dartmouth.

Guests can unload luggage at the house before parking.

While there are four public spaces nearby, they are often busy; additional free parking can be found on neighbouring roads such as Crowthers Hill and Jawbones. The South West Coast Path and Dartmouth Castle are a 15-minute walk away, with opportunities for wild swimming at the Castle or Sugary Cove.

Warfleet Creek is just 10 minutes on foot.

By car, it’s 20 minutes to Blackpool Sands, 25 minutes to Slapton, and 40 minutes to Bantham and Bigbury beaches. Most beaches in South Devon’s South Hams welcome dogs year-round, with some seasonal restrictions in place.

About the location

DARTMOUTH

Totnes 12 miles.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. A relaxing location in South Devon.

Please note the house is situated in Above Town (Steep and narrow access road & steps to town centre).
