“The site and property were excellent and exactly as advertised.”

We have been visiting Hillfield for around ten years and have stayed approximately 15 times in total. This property was every bit as good as the others we have experienced and met our expectations throughout. The only issue we encountered was with the television. Despite several attempts, we were unable to connect to any of the streaming apps, as the TV would not connect to the internet, either through the property’s Wi-Fi or by tethering to my MiFi device. This was frustrating, ...

Despite several attempts, we were unable to connect to any of the streaming apps, as the TV would not connect to the internet, either through the property’s Wi-Fi or by tethering to my MiFi device. This was frustrating, particularly for my children, and unfortunately led them to suggest staying in a different property on our next visit. Aside from this issue, we had a very enjoyable stay and would happily recommend the property

“This is our 3rd visit to Hillfield Village in 18 months.”

It is absolutely beautiful first class cleanliness which I totally appreciate. Stunning countryside surrounds the property and the location is perfect. Only slight negative towel railes in bathrooms a cannot be regulated extreme hot. Having said that we will be back.

“From the moment we walked into the accommodation we were thrilled.”

It was everything that was promised. It was exactly like the photos . The beds and pillows and sofas were comfy and all the facilities were in place and ready to use..luckily the weather was fantastic so we used the little decking area every afternoon and sunned ourselves . Highly recommended .

“Lovely place but need to let holiday makers know a car is a necessity as very remote with nowhere to get a few facilities to start your holiday, bread milk etc .”

Lack of information in folders in cottage regarding cab numbers and directions to where to pick up local bus would be helpful . Also to let occupants know that the nearest bus stop is a good 20 minute walk away and that they only run one an hour so a timetable would be helpful when planning trips into Dartmouth town .

Everything at the property was first class even with four of us and my wife having mobility problems wouldn’t hesitate to book again More information on how to get hot water would help us less technical people and where additional parking is but I’m sure the owners can easily rectify this very minor problem

“Keepers cottage is aptly name !”

It’s a keeper for us !!! We loved everything about the place , from the comfort of the sofa to the comfort of the bed, Use of two bathrooms / shower room; the kitchen was equipped with all that we needed. Tastefully decorated too. Outside the decking with chairs and table is a lovely place to relax especially when the sun is shining The parking was easy with an allocated spot and great bigs bins for rubbish disposal discreetly out the way !! An excellent place to stay for comfort, peace and quiet !!!

“A superb cottage.”

Beautifully decorated and designed. The kitchen had everything you could possibly need and the space made food preparation easy and enjoyable. The patio with French doors from the lounge made for evening relaxation after exploring Dartmouth. The small ferry to the castle is a must and the walk back along the coastal path provided wonderful views. The only drawback for us was the very narrow lane down to the village with limited passing places.

“Very good quality accommodation in a peaceful location.”

We loved the tennis court and play park. The only slight issue was that the fridge was extremely loud at night, it had difficulty closing properly which might have contributed to the noise.

“Excellent property, fully equipped and very clean.”

It was quiet and we were able to take full advantage of the outdoor seating area. The site is relatively difficult to access (narrow lanes) and is about 2 miles from the nearest shop; this is made clear in the description and is no problem but you have to ensure that you “stock up” before you get there.

More so than we were expecting. All the properties, rented or owned were good quality and well maintained, with common areas tastefully planted with attractive shrubs etc. We would definitely recommend this property.

Everything we needed including everything for our our 18 month old. The cottage is beautiful, very clean and comfortable. Staff really friendly and helpful. The site is so peaceful and quiet and in a great location close to Dartmouth. We will be booking again soon!

“The toilet switch was half missing as has been scheduled to be replaced before the next party arrive, this was with our blessing as they advised it could be done sooner if it was a problem.”

The metal rivit holding the tongs together at the pivot was missing and couldn't be used but we founs a way around it. I also asked about a spatular as there wasn't one in the appartment and was told one should be there. This I suspect will be replaced in due course. The support staff were kind and nothing was too much trouble. The complimentary bottle of wine was well received and duly emptied between the 3 of us. The area was quiet and peaceful making for a relaxing break. It was also central to many places we tended to visit whilst in the area. I would heartily recommend this as a place to stay and look forward to returning at some point in the future.

“The cottage was so lovely, it was situated in a lovely small picturesque development, surrounded by fields.”

Was only a short drive into town and close to a pub where they do good food and a nice play area for the kids. My only negative feedback would be that we didn’t realise it had an mezzanine in the cottage so wasn’t ideal with two small children, but we made it work. It also gets extremely hot in the cottage especially upstairs so would of been nice to of had a couple of fans available.

The site as a whole looked well maintained. The welcome bottle of wine went down well after a long drive to get here. We had only visited Dartmouth on a day visit when staying in Brixham a few years ago so enjoyed having more time to look around. We will certainly visit again.

“Generally I was very pleased with my choice to stay at Keepers Cottage.”

There had been a water leak and vinyl flooring was discoloured and there was a musty smell in the bathroom and shower room. It did not spoil our holiday but we were only made aware on arrival. It would have been nice to have known beforehand. Otherwise very clean and comfortable. Very quiet and peaceful setting. Staff at Hillfield Village were friendly and helpful. Definately recommend - once the flooring is replaced!

“Hello Sykes, I’ve already filled out one of these, has it been lost?”

As I already stated when we arrived the girl at reception told us that there had been a serious leak in the bathroom and therefore damp. I should have asked to see the cottage. My big mistake!!! We should have been given alternative accommodation as there was no shortage of available cottages. Most were empty whilst we were there. There no one at reception to complain to and the overwhelming smell of damp was truly awful. It was a spoilt holiday!

“The cottage wasn't as clean as on previous visit.”

In fact the first thing we had to do was clean the windows. Getting two people through a hot shower was a challenge, even with the booster switch.

I have passed these comments on to our Housekeeping Manager who will ensure further training is given where needed. Following your comments the hot water system has been investigated and found to be working as it should. Unfortunately the Keepers Cottages have a small hot water tank that once drained (by having a long shower or bath) do take a while to refill, even after pressing the boost button. “Overall the accommodation was nice and staff were helpful.”

We were disappointed that the pool and playground were out of action and looked like they had been disused all year. There were problems when we were there that did impact our holiday. On the first day the hot water ran out and there were no instructions of how to get more hot water. This meant we could not get showers after the beach so could not eat out as intended. The staff at coast and country tried to help Over the phone but could not locate instructions for the immersion heater, and the caretaker called to advise us the following day. There should be instructions in the property for this as the caretaker said it happens a lot as water capacity is low. On the 3rd day the en-suite toilet leaked overnight and could not be fixed, therefore for half the holiday we only had one toilet in use. I feel I deserve some compensation for this inconvenience as I had reduced facilities for half my holidays. Overall we enjoyed our holiday and would return here when the pool reopens.

“We have stayed at 2 Keepers Cottage several times and have thoroughly enjoyed it and in December however this time, it was clear as we entered the property that it had not been used for a while as it smelt a little musty.”

It would also have helped if the heating had been turned on to warm the cottage through as it did take a while for the heaters to "kick in". Apart from that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hillfield as always.

The property

2 Keeper's Cottage is one of five delightful, recently refurbished properties at Hillfield Village, offering modern and flexible accommodation over two floors, for couples and families alike. The cottage has an impressive living area with a cathedral ceiling and views to the gallery above.

Sumptuous seating provides a comfortable area to relax in or to watch the flat screen Smart TV, with DVD.

The dining area has a table and two benches, comfortably seating four, whilst the modern kitchen is equipped to a very high standard with ceramic hob, fan assisted oven, fridge, freezer, washer/dryer and microwave. The property has two bedrooms – the master bedroom has a King-size bed, and beautiful en suite bathroom with whirlpool bath and overhead shower.

The second ‘gallery’ bedroom has two single beds.

In addition to the en suite bathroom there is a fully tiled ground floor shower room.

Outside, guests also have the use of a private deck area. Nestled near historic Dartmouth, Hillfield Village facilities include acres of beautiful gardens, all-weather tennis court and a children's play area.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon.
