The River Dart flows from Dartmeet on Dartmoor towards the idyllic towns and villages of Totnes and Dittisham, and out to sea past Kingswear and Dartmouth. Lush banks surrounding the Dart help to keep the river rich in wildlife, so you can expect to spot fantastic scenes of nature, including salmon, porpoises and an array of birds.

River Dart holidays 

The River Dart has much allure. Foodies dine in amazing riverside eateries, including Sharpham vineyard, The Angel, The Seahorse and The Anchorstone Café, whilst enjoying breathtaking river views. Families dot the waterfront with crabbing lines in hand, ready to play this favoured pastime. Couples stroll hand-in-hand along the picturesque embankment to indulge in fluffy battered fish and chips. History buffs explore the castles at Kingswear and Dartmouth and tour the Royal Naval College. Groups gather in open green spaces by the river to play rounders and cricket. But, what brings almost everyone together is the appeal of travelling by boat, either by river cruise, private charter or even during a sailing lesson, to see the river from a different perspective. Look out for seals as they’re usually spotted when travelling from Dittisham to Totnes!

When holidaying by the River Dart, we highly recommend visiting the former holiday home of the famous author Agatha Christie at the National Trust’s Greenway Estate - it’s easy to see why Agatha loved the area so much when you visit this picturesque spot!
